Ha ... ive been on the phone all day trying to sort one for my M35...

fast fit.. fast fit... hmmm ahhh NO.

anyway i found a guy just near Wollongong who will custom make one for $700

i asked if he could design it to take 1500kg breaked, he said he might be able to get it up to 1700kg , he's done a few before, he's a nice bloke and he speaks english.

im taking my car down there tomorrow, and because its built from scratch, its a day and a half.

Fast fit said 3 hrs.

ill let you know how it all goes.

i dont like using big companies with massive turnover..(thats just my choice though) you dont get the service and i bet all the wiring is stripped, twisted and taped up.. FAIL!

anyway - south coast tow bars unanderra is where im going.

stay tuned

hey guys just for ur info i found this guy in 1 of the old threads and is still around in a.c.t if there is enough people maybe we could get a group buy on this

below are the details he emailed me this is to suit the c34

Hi,

Thanks for your enquiry .

Relevant data re the towbar is:

Heavy duty Hayman Reese type (50mm square hitch) rated at 2 000kg towing.

All removable parts are Hayman Reese and readily available.

Cost is $725 plus freight ( to Newcastle about $35).

Written warranty and fitting instructions are provided. Towbar is not certified as legal in your state (this situation is a common with most ‘grey imports) but no such problems have been reported to me. I have made about 50 of them. I am not aware of anyone who has gone to the trouble of having one certified. If this is done, however, you should be aware that the certifying engineer (who must be accredited to your State RTA) may vary the rating at his discretion and charge about $500 for the service. I should also point out that , legally, the maximum towing capacity is set by the vehicle manufacturer (Nissan) and the rating given in your owner’s manual is the legal bible.

Payment not required until towbar is completed. Payment by direct deposit or credit card by phone accepted.

Fitting would take about 4 hours for a handyman. If the car is brought to Canberra the fitting charge is $220 for a total of $945 for the complete installation.

No special wiring required and basic harness (with instructions) is supplied with towbar kit.

A copy of the Fitting Instructions can be forwarded by email on request.

Just let me know if and when you require the bar, it will take about a week to have ready.

Please advise any questions you may have.

Regards

Max

Hrmmm, I can do without my car for a week. It's an S2 34 with non-Dayz kit.

I'm very keen for a tow bar. Who'd you speak to?

http://www.towright....wbar-28302.aspx

that seems more reasonable

1200-1500 - $250, not sure if it will clear your rear bar tho (if you have the dayz optioned one)

Holy crappoly! $250 for a 1500kg bar! Done!

I've been searching for friggin' months. That's a bargain.

Assuming the post to Aus, of course :)

Yep, i just got the exact same :)

That is what I consider a bargain. It just so happens that today it payday. Coincidence? I think not!

I've asked for a few pics. Assuming I like what I see, I'll be placing an order mid-July at the latest (highly likely before that).

in NSW an engineer has to pass the bar if its a custom made bar, if its a mass produced bar the original would have been tested and passed and so all subsequent ones would "pass" and come "engineered"

dont know about the fitting of it though.

Picked my m35 up from south coast tow bars yesterday, the job is so tidy, very happy with it, whole bar is hidden but the tongue, I got the tongue put nice and high, 465mm from ground to top of tongue plate to get a nice balance with the trailer, it rides flat and tows beautifly .

And fuel economy is still up near 10km/100 with the trailer and about 400kg loaded in it.

Bar cost $700

I'll post some pics later on

    • Hey crew, Failed my WOF cause of a lower control arm, and I've decided to hit both arms, and also the compression rods at the same time(seems they're gonna be the most likely upcoming failure points from some discussions with the lads over on the G35 reddit). I've looking at these form Z1:  https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-compression-rod-p-40716.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-lower-control-arm-p-40674.html I asked Z1 if they'd work as it's the same platform, just RHD vs LHD. I basically got told "Lol dunno". Specifically they aren't aware of any difference but can't guarantee fitment as they haven't done it on a 350GT. So guess I'm asking is if there is any issues with using 2005 G35 coupe suspension parts on a 2005 350GT coupe? Orginally I thought it could be something in the way of the arms that each control arm is designed to be positioned around, but that'd be an engineering nightmare for Nissan needing two different shaped control arms 😅
    • ^ This. The mode door actuator is a common failure, as is the actuator and/or the actual valve for the coolant flow control valve. I also don't know how available the mode door actuator is these days. I've been meaning to look into it and get one from wherever is possible, to keep in the shed for the rainy day when mine eventually fails. Anyway, the advice to you is to search the usual NOS part supply places, or even just go to Nissan and see what they list.
    • Have you got a pic of the actuator? My guess is that unit has failed internally and was flopping around, so the previous engineer who owned it forced it to be fully open to cold air (blocking the heater core path). As far as you can tell, is anything else wrong in the system? Likely you just need a new actuator (not sure how available they are) and then "installation is the reverse of disassembly"
    • I'm happy with the Lsailt unit that I put in, it puts full Android on the top screen so you can run whatever Nav and other Apps you want, while still existing inside the factory functionality like automatic reverse cams, audio input switching, retains factory bluetooth etc. Not cheap and the install was moderate (not simple, not hard) Yours is a V36 not V37 though right?
    • Yeap, all the NC's that I originally looked at that had a hard top were PRHT, which makes the roof line look horrible, hence why I said nope to them My only caveat for another MX5 was it needed to have a hard top, and initially I didn't think you could get a detachable hard top for the NC,  like my NB had Again, a big thanks to Matty for helping me source the detachable hard top for my little girl, they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia, and the few people who have them, keep them Also to Greg, for initially pointing me in the NC direction NC PRHT 🤢🤮 Not mine (I really should take more photos of my car), but a NC with the detachable hard top 😁 To me, the difference in how the detachable hard top roof line looks, and how it actually follows the bodies lines, like they do on NA's and NB's, is chalk and cheese compared to the bulbous looking PRHT
