I have had my R33 GTR for about three month's, now i am looking at putting some mods into it. But i am not sure where to start?

It's my daily drive at the moment, and it essentially stock. It has some Pods and a after market ganador exhaust.

In a few week's i will be on holiday's and during that time off. I want to be working on my car.

But honestly, I am a bit overwhelemd with all the option's on what to do!

Can somebody just give me a list of things that I will need to get some respectable figures out of my GTR?

After doing as much research as i can, I have come to the conclusion that i need....

Turbo's - What ones do I buy? Single or stick with twins?

Fuel Pump - What one do i get? how many L?

Injectors - Again no idea?

Intercooler - Can i get something that just bolts into the stock mounts? Recommendation's?

Piping - Is it nessasry? Thoughts?

Apexi PowerFC - I heard alot of people still use these. Are there any alternative's? Anything better? Anything better value for money?

Boost Controller - Needed?

Is there anything I am missing?

I plan on installing all the mods myself. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Turbo's Garrett -9's (twins) which are good for about 300-320kw with stock turbo-like response. If you want 330+, then Garrett -5's

Fuel Pump - Nismo drops straight in and is the least ammount of trouble (flows 400kw+)

Injectors - Sard 700's I believe are on special right now (444cc stockers will max out at about 310kw, with a pressure bump via a adjustable FPR maybe 325kw max), bigger injectors (1000cc+) need a new bigger fuel rail

Intercooler - Usually fine for up to 380kw

Piping - Is it nessasry? Nope, but good clamps are. Factory piping can help prevent shuffling etc which hardpipe kits can cause.

ECU - ECU selection should always be what your tuner is most comfortable with. Keep in mind ECUs that use the stock AFMs will max out at about 310kw. A pair of Nismo AFMs will set you back $700. If you are going over 320kw, you will find a MAP based ECU will end up cheaper as you won't need to buy AFMs (Apexi PFC D-Jetro, Haltech, Link, ViPec etc). The cheapest option is Nistune with a R32 GTR ECU (R33 GTR ecus aren't compatible with Nistune)

Boost Controller - With adjustable wastegate actuators, and using either a manual or electronic boost controller add afew psi to get you closer to your target.

Cheers moodles :)

Couple more question's though;

I believe I am still running stock coil packs, should i be looking at swapping them over?

Where is the best place to order all this stuff from?

What is the difference between using MAP vs AFM's? Is there any advantages over one or the other?

Is it possible to achieve 350kw, while still being a decent daily? ie good on fuel...(I am a optimist)

Whats the budget?

1. Put stock airbox on

2. Exhaust

3. PFC & a tune

That's a $2.5k-3k spent right there.

You should do more reading though, things like piping and intercooler stay as is... Plenty of threads covering it all.

Oh missed that bit. Should be ok as long as it's a true 3" (jap exhausts tend to have a restrictor in the middle so get it checked).

So then just a ECU/Tune which will be $1500 or there abouts. Change the fuel pump as well and be happy really.

Otherwise it's turbos out, and that alone will be a 3-4k adventure given the turbos themselves will cost $2200. Certainly worth changing them if you can afford.

Then you can make 300rwkw on stock injectors & AFMs. Otherwise you'll be stuck around 250rwkw with stock turbos. If you do change turbos you will also need a clutch as a stock one won't last @ 300rwkw forever.

Either way there is no way you are going to get near 350rwkw with $5000.

You need $8000-$10,000 as you'd also pay attention to brakes, full fluids service, injectors/AFM etc.

No problem! Will check the exhaust. From memory its a Ganador exhaust.

I take it its best just to talk to my tuner (which i don't have one yet..) and just get it done all through them? As there are a few used Power Fc's going on the forum's. I need to decide on what tuner to go to.

I thought once you replace turbo's you should swap out injectors, fuel pump and what ever else? I didn't know i could just take out the turbo's and still get decent gains...

Main reason i am wanting to change out the turbo's is due to hearing the stock turbo's go boom after the 100,000km mark. Being my car has a Vielside speedo, Who knows how many genuine km's are on it, it says it is on 103,xxx.

Considering i will have about a week and a bit off work, I was planning on installing everything myself. Installing the turbo's myself shouldn't be too difficult as long as they are just straight swaps correct?

If i can get 300rwkw without opening up the engine and just adding turbo's, I will be stoked! Thats still with all stock AFM's, fuel pump and injectors??

cam gears, boost controller ( get a good japanese one ), -9s turbos, front pipes ( the stock 33 dumps are good at that level but the a good set like the CES ones will give a bit more and since you'll be there any way), Z32 AFMs ( get the apex'i pod kit to suit ), 600cc+ injectors, nismo pump and a PFC then a tune

open up the out let of the stock manifolds when fitting turbos

this with 19-20psi will see you clear of 300rwkw

this is basiclly the setup I had on my R34 ( I had -7s, stock AFMs and airbox ) and on 19psi it it made 312rwkw

I dont think you did a lot of research...

Turbo's - What ones do I buy? Single or stick with twins? Turbos -7's or -9's you choose

Fuel Pump - What one do i get? how many L? Bosch 044/ DW 300

Injectors - Again no idea? ID 1000's idle better than Sard 700's they will fit in stock fuel rail

Intercooler - Can i get something that just bolts into the stock mounts? Recommendation's? Leave it

Piping - Is it nessasry? Thoughts? Good clamps

Apexi PowerFC - I heard alot of people still use these. Are there any alternative's? Anything better? Anything better value for money? A lot of options that you should search through

Boost Controller - Needed? Yes, Greddy profec b spec 2

After market front pipe

High flow cat

AFM's are fine

Dumps are fine

8k - 10k

All for 300kw

I have tried to do as much research as possible...started before i even bought the car. I think i have learnt alot, but still HEAPS more to learn, as you can tell by my noob questions ha ha.

8-10k is too much to put into it right now.

Thinking 5k at the moment..even still thats a bit much.

Looking for best bang for buck mods, I thought slapping on some turbo's with the nessasry support mods would be the best bang for buck. While keeping it a reliable daily.

Perhaps i was wrong and should just get a tune and keep it all stock :\

    • Dose will be able to confirm this more, but a 1.5 way IS a 2 way. It's just not as aggressive on one of the ramps. Changing from 2 to 1.5 I'm not sure how though.
    • No updates on the car but figured I'd share a nice outing. All the recent work paid off and I got it all together and out the shed for a car based pre-wedding celebration for a good mate of mine. Pretty casual cruise through the hills to a pub for lunch then out for some go-karting at The Bend. Headed down to Myponga for the night We stopped in at the reservoir before heading out down to the coast for lunch via the dam  By the end of the weekend away I covered 350km and the 32 generally behaved its self. A good Shake down after being apart before the Track day in a few weeks
    • The front prop shaft from my GTR had very notchy unis, which obviously needed replacement but unfortunately uses the (usually) non-replaceable (staked) type.     A new shaft is something like $2K plus shipping from Japan.   I wouldn't even bother asking the local Nissan spares dept.     Rang Hardy Spicer but no go, which surprised me a little.     There's a place over Dandenong way that would make me a 'performance' shaft but un-necessary in my situation.   They claimed to be getting the equipment in to replace staked unis but couldn't give me a timeframe.   Anyway, long story short, found a place to do the work just 5 mins from me: https://knoxdriveshafts.com.au $420 (cash) and about a week later I have my driveshaft back.   Price includes balancing. Owner is a one man band working out of a shed in his backyard but from what I could see he's very well setup with some expensive equipment.
    • Thanks. That's what I was after. One of the kits, the o-ring side is too big diameter. The other kit is a plate with a o-ring to seal and the hose connection offset.
