odessy
Just got a r32 and am new to turbos. Was told that it was running 12psi by a mbc. I did some reading about adjusting this and read that the car won't make any boost in neutral when revved... but it does. The aftermarket boost gauge sits in vaccum at idle but when I put my foot to the floor the boost will climb to about 10psi and it's not just a quick spike either. Can hear it spooling up. Supposedly just running the stock turbo, pod filter and 3inch exhaust with high flow cat. The mbc is tightened to maximum... Is this normal? The Dan
either the gauge is wrong or you have timing issues. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404922 Share on other sites
odessy
Well I can hear the turbo spooling and the blow off valve, I presume, when I take my foot off. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404931 Share on other sites
Manuel Kasko
Mine used to make a few psi on stock turbo. Not any where near 10 but Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404936 Share on other sites
Hadouken
if you have a atmo bov aka psshhh then it will build boost in neutral Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404937 Share on other sites
odessy
Yeah that is the noise I am refferring to. Will the stock BOV's not make any noise as they vent back in? Manuel Kasko
if you have a atmo bov aka psshhh then it will build boost in neutral Hahaha dont start another one of these (I had stock BOV btw) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404951 Share on other sites
gotRICE?
Tis true though. My stock turbo would make good boost in neutral. The GT30 however does not lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404954 Share on other sites
odessy
I think it has the stock bov. I thought one vented to the atmoshpere will cause problems as it mess' with the afm? TiTAN
it will if you are using the AFM Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6404974 Share on other sites
odessy
Yeah it's the stock one and is vented back in just after the podfilter and afm. How can timing affect this? Should I be worried and is there any way of telling what is causing this? odessy
Also the boost gauge is on a t connection near the throttle body. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6405010 Share on other sites
odessy
If the manual boost controller is set to maximum could this cause it as the wastegate will not open at all or should there still be insufficient flow to spool the turbo up? Hadouken
Hahaha dont start another one of these (I had stock BOV btw) Couldn't help it... Sick photo btw. I can make absolutely nothing out! odessy
That on is a bit better. Clear tube goes to the boost gauge. The car starts and idles fine. Sits at -20psi on idle. Have only driven it once a week ago when I first got it as I don't have a licence and it isn't rego'd but seem to drive fine. Hanaldo
If the manual boost controller is set to maximum could this cause it as the wastegate will not open at all or should there still be insufficient flow to spool the turbo up? Yeh in neutral there is no load, shouldn't be enough flow to spool to 10psi. OP, I'd get your timing checked mate, or it could be running super rich? odessy
Is that the right place for the boost gauge? How will the timing cause this and are there any other symptoms that would show too? gotRICE?
I wouldnt use that for a boost gauge. Just take if off where the stock one took the feed at the back of the plenum. Let the FPR have its own special vac source If the timing is out it could be letting some of the combustion out into the exhaust early, that would let the turbo spool. Manuel Kasko
Take to mechanic and get timing light See timing light thread (it's not a tarp trust me) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/402154-what-does-a-timing-light-do/ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402828-boost-in-neutral/#findComment-6405134 Share on other sites
