Hi all,

I have got a 2001 300GT v35، currentle at 90.000km . Quite recentle i recognized that when i go over 70km/h , some kind of noise is coming from the car. Its like driving on an unevensurface road. It keeps making that humming noise, no so loud but still annoying. When i drive, it feels like the noise is coming from the back of the car, i assume it might be the exhaust system related issue, but not sure. By the way as u know v35s have dual exhaust outlets at the end of thecar where the smoke comes out. When the car is in idle, it seems like only one of them is active. No smoke is coing out of the second one. Is it normal or do i have an issue. When u step on the accelerator, the second one is also becoming active in my case.

Thanks in advance

My 300GT has a single exhaust - I thought it was only the 350's that had dual exhaust?

Only the Coupe gets the dual exhaust (which is really just dual rear mufflers, not a full dual system)

Derp is talking about the rear can has 2 outlets. It not brokken, it's how Nissan designed it. Low flow, one outlet, high flow, both flow higher flow. Like BMW, merc, and lots of other makers.

As for the noise, as has been mentioned before try servicing the flux capacitor. Or maybe try tyres and or bearings. Or could even be worn out diff with massive Kms.

Thanks for your contributions guys. Highly appreciated.

I have just checked the rear wheels and it seems like there is nothing wrong with the bearings as when I spin the wheels there is no disturbing noise. and I reckon bearing would make a grinding noise as metals touch each other. However in my case its more of an exhaust sound. you know the custom exhaust systems that make 'vuuuuuuuuuuuuuu' kind of sound. Mine is similar. It's not too loud but still disturbing as I like quite rides.

The exhaust thing I was talking about; I think I was misunderstood. 300GT and 250GT has single exhaust outlet with double tips. So mine has double pipes on the left hand side under the fuel tank. The questions was when the car is in idle, smoke comes out of only one of the pipes. the one on the right hand side is pretty much dead. however if you step on the accelerator then the second one turn on . So it might be the way it should be or is there something wrong.

I know of no exhausts that sound like a vacuum cleaner (except on GT5). Perhaps get a sample of this sound and post it.

This fella has the answer

It could still be a wheel bearing.. just because you can't hear it make any noise when turning by hand, doesn't mean it isn't bad, if you could hear it when turning it by hand, it would be 'screaming' at 60km/h. If it is an exhaust issue, I would expect the noise to change depending what you do with the throttle.

Still confused by your exhaust setup.. my 350 has a single pipe with a dual outlet final muffler.. keeping in mind the fuel tank is under the rear seats and therefore well before the final muffler, I am interested to see how yours is setup

servicing the flux capacitor, LOL

Well to check wheel bearing you are doing it wrong

Jack rear up so wheel is of the ground

May be easier with wheel off but you need to grip the rotor (or wheel) either side and then push with one hand and pull the other, alternate this back and forth and see if you can feel any movement, should be 0.

Do the same thing but top and bottom ...

Check all rubber mounts along the exhaust, get someone to accelerate slowly while in park and see if you can hear the noise..

Get someone to drive the car and follow it and see if you can see anything

As for exhaust not being true dual in the coupe... well they sort of are as its a V6, two headers, two cats and then a Y pipe that then converges it to a single midpipe and then muffler with 2 tips that flow the same (AM anyway). If you get a dual cat back exhaust then its full dual.

Good one Nate, those of us on the "dark side' black screen cant read a word of that. Perhaps you could change your font color?

The muffler has a flap inside to block flow to one tip unless you need it. (not much chance of that with the NA) Sometimes this can get blocked or seize, so you should get someone to check it by hanging out the window as you boot it up the freeway. :P

The noise is still there and it's getting louder as you go faster. We will check the rear bearings tomorrow.

I have recently discovered another issue which is bloody strange. I dont know the name of the part bu I have attached the picture. The arrows point the location where i get 'tik tik tik tik' kind of sound (as if something is broken inside) when u accelerate in idle. you just hear it when you get up to 1000rpm and then its gone. you don't hear it while driving. what the hell is wrong with that thing?

it shouldnt make that sound right?

What is that thing sitting on top of the engine?

Recommend never going below 1000rpm.

Could again be your flux capacitor, but then again could be the woodpecker valve which emits a ticcy tippy noise. It's located somewhere in that location. You might find one on eGay.

This might not b srs...

ticking noise is normal... if you worried get a long flat blade screw driver or something metal wit plastic end and put the metal end on each cylinder and you ear on the plastic end.

Listen for any cylinder that sounds different to the rest, if all the same then ticking is normal. Unless ur lifters are acting up, if so get some cleaner and run it though but honestly the best thing for it is to every now and again redline 2-4 gears few times once car is warm and you are driving.. if you drive like a grandpa, its actually worse for the engine believe it or not...

as for my font colour its just standard?

Edit: Oh the name of the part is a upper Plenum, and the part of the plenum your pointing to is the throttle body... FYI

NISMO-61, where are you situated?

May I recommend catching up with another member that has a fair idea about V35's and learn from them/ask questions.

Even better would be to download the G35 workshop manual and start reading. The more you learn, the more you can do and dare I say, the more money you will save.

that ticking noise does affect the car and its performance at all, but if you have no idea about what it is, kind of annoying.

I have been fooling around melbourne to find someone who can tell me something about that bloody noise coming from the rear end of the car. It seems like 80% rear wheel bearings are playing up. If I need to change them, where can I find them?

350's or Maxima's rear wheel bearings would suit my 300Gt V35 Sedan or not?

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Are you interested in working on your car yourself or do you intend paying others to service/modify?

Two options I can think of in Melbourne are "Scotty NM35" although he is more along the lines of building/installing modifications or you could have a look at this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/403845-servicing-in-melbourne/

If I can figure out the problem, I reckon I can do it, but it's hard to identify what the issue is. Therefore I need someone who can do it and tell me the exact issue.

Thanks for your help.

Just wanna repeat the question I asked earlier on, the rear wheel bearings of V35 compatible with 350s or Maximas? any idea?

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
