Hey guys,

I'm about to remove my front driveshafts to change the boots, so while they are out I wanna change my front wheels bearings as they are abit noisy

How do you go about getting to the bearings? What's involved?

I can't seem to find any info/DIY's on how to do these

If anyone knows or has don't this before, a brief step by step process would be great !

just did front wheel bearings on my R33 GTR recently, so i had to take the whole wheel hub assemble off and get the bearings pressed out at pedders, with a big bearing press.

The first workshop I went to couldn't budge them, and was afraid of breaking the hub, they had so much force on it !

so they can be a bit of a prick..

not too hard, like everything, hardest the first time round..

if you can ( depending on type of rim ) crack the big main centre nut before you take the wheels off and jack the car off the ground, saves trying to stop the wheel from turning !

I snapped 2 x 1/2 inch breaker bars trying to crack the back ones until I remembered I had and air impact driver in the shed ! ( that sucker undoes anything ) now my favourite tool !!

If your taking the front driveshafts out you'll be most of the way there, as far as what needs to come off.

once you've cracked that nut and you get the brake caliper & rotor off, everything else will be quite obvious at that point.

One tip, I went and bought myself a 150mm bearing puller for pressing out the shafts out of the hubs and also things like the steering arms out of the hubs too. first I did the old nut on the end of the thread and hit it out, but ended up damaging the threads :yucky: so I'd recommend taking your time and using a puller or something.

As Richard has mentioned, best way is with a press. The little 12t unit i have didnt budge any but the 40t gets them easily, they are in there fairly tight. And they can be tight to get back in also.

If you are going to be taking the entire hub off, and you unbolt it from the wishbone setup. Just watch the bearings where it connects to the wishbone. It might pay to replace them at the same time if you havent done already, parts for both those sides should set you back around $50, don't go to nissan though as the seals cost $98 i purchased mine through the local bearing shop

Cheers for the replys guys, will prob start these next Monday when I have more time, might take the hubs down to pedders also to press the old bearings out and squeeze the new ones in for me

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.     • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!

    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
