know the feeling of thinking ahead and being an old khunt :P

Just sell it....you had your fun, and losing your license for 6 months will just take out any fun of it sitting in the driveway. Bummer, it really sucks that it comes to that. You're not a danger to society (i assume? ;)) you're a responsible guy, got a good job, etc and yet when it comes to the road your labelled a crim simply because the majority of the population can't drive properly or handle a car. ****ing sux. I just was having enough of that attitude myself in good ol VIC, amongst other things.

M3 would be cool.. if you don't want to spend heaps, maybe just something like a soarer, chaser or something. Some reckon the refinement is as good in some of the Luxury Lexus as the beamers and crap anyhow, except 1/3 the price. Cops won't hassle you because from the outside they look stock and heaps of oldies drive em. Spend evey buck on the interior and making the engine one ****ing stinker. Shove it right up the cops as you go past with 350+ at the wheels. I've seen the 1JZ-GTE handle that with stock internals so you only gotta worry about the external fluff..

Thats right, i would have been better off if i got out of the car when they stopped me, and then king kit one of em before they could say any crap about speeding. Then i would have just got a fine and walked out of court a free man.

Bracks takes all our $$ from faulty speed camera's, and then whens hes done with that he takes ur license!!!!

I doubt i will do any major emgine mods on next car, maybe exhaust, comp and some nice 19 inch rims.

The E46 M3 is still very expensive($100,000+)

The choice for the E36 M3 is the 1997+ 3.2 litre six speed manual box.

Early ones like a 1994 3.0 litre, 5 speed is ok. AVOID ALL SMG boxes. These are not the real deal.

But I have a bit of a problem paying $65,000+ or whatever for a 2nd hand car of that age. And the repairs can only be done at a BMW dealer.

I'd rather go safe and get a new or near new Falcon XR6T or a Mazda RX8.

T.

I aint been reamed yet.

1st judge told me he would of let me off with a warning since i have never done any other stupid shit in 11 years of driving. Its all got to do with the new legislation that bracks's needle dick government has come in with recently, where it states if u were doing x amount over the speed limit u would loose your license for x amount of time, so the judge has no discression to rule even if u sped coz ur wife was dying and u had to get to the hospital and in 100 years u have never broken 1 law!!!

In any other state i would get off easy, coz apprently in vic speed kills everyone and everytime !!!

FU*K U STEVE BRACKS!!!!

:bs!: :bs!: :bs!: :bs!:

If you have hospital records and prove the patient was transported in your car, you will be exempted.

From memory you were speeding down the monash/eastern late at night and got done by an unmarked (maybe off duty) police officer.

Do the crime be prepared to do the time.

If i am mistaken please feel free to elaborate, then i will appologise for my mistake (if any).

Hearing before mine had the same situation of guy rushing home to take sick pregnant wife to hospital and he lost for 12 months.

Mine was on princess highway and unmarked, but they pulled me over on gladstone road, after i had to stop for a red light to turn right and took off then was pulled over and told they were right behind me, yet i had time to stop completely and wait for a green arrow before they showed up behind me only when the light went green!! :bs!:

Yeah, M3 engines are ROCK SOLID! All BMW inline 6's are for that matter... why do you think they are so popular for the endurance races like Bathurst 24hr? If i'm not mistaken, the first Bathurst a 323i won, that's a car with 127kw's out of the factory. Bout 1350kg as well.

Yeah as Tony said, earlier M3 engines were only 3ltr till 1997. 215kw's or something like that, not a lot. But then 1997 onwards brought in the 3.2 with about 235kw's. And the E46 now has 256kw's.

In terms of modification, these are 3.2 ltr, straight six N/A's we're talking about here. BMW Motorsport have rung these puppies pretty dry, they're kinda at there limit as it is. Nothing like a RB25DET or RB26DETT.

Yeah, unless you've got the cash for a SMG II, don't bother. I know someone who was selling their 1997 Blue M3 for $47k i think. Maybe a little less.

328i Coupe/Convertible are sexy as cars, but if you can, try and stretch to the 330i range. Chalk and cheese those engines. 147kw's vs 170kw's. Soooooo smooth....

Is it just me, or is it everytime someone undertakes major mods, like Inasnt, it gets sold shortly after? I've seen it heaps, a major project gets finished, then a few months later, it gets sold?

cheers.

As of this writing, there are 107 detailed documented cases of bearing failure in M3 engines, and probably a couple hundred more that have happened but are not documented. That number continues to rise, and both BMW and BMWNA are doing nothing pro active about it.

 there goes my dream car....

I think you'll find that Bathurst cars aint exactly what you get to drive away from the dealership :D

I guess it depends what kind of rocks you are talking about... :bonk:

I was waiting for that one

denham, can't you just not drive like a hoon :) and perhaps move to another part of melbourne where you don't get reamed for having an import ie MILES AWAY FROM THE SOUTH EASTERN SUBURBS :)

    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
