Well, I'll be able to give you a genuine assessment on a Jim Berry clutch while your engine is out..... But I think that'll be the least of your worries.....

Hope you get it sorted, can you do a build thread? I love build threads ;)

Whilst the engine is out, you might as well spend the coin and take care of oil control and get some forgies in there.

Already a forged engine but definately plan to look at oil control. Oil drains in head, cam baffles (can do anytime obviously) and sump baffles at a minimum.

Build thread? Dunno if it''ll be interesting enough! But then again..... Pretty tempted to look at RB30/26.. Might offload some Datsun stuff and see what I can afford. I''ll do it all myself so could be worthy of a thread.

Might go research the RB30...

jim berry is a rebuilt from your old clutch parts, where NPC is made from all new bits...

for the price of a Jim berry you can get a NPC brand new clutch with new lighter flywheel as well which is recomended to keep the clutch cool

will look something like this but newer, this is a rebuilt one...

only done a few thousand ks on mine but I love it :D

yeah its a ripper price, 750 for clutch 400 for flywheel..flywheel is 6.5kg I think so not too light either..

was a bit rough for first 500kms or so but once worn in its really nice...just remember it is a button clutch so may be a little harsh if you spend a lot of time in traffic or do alot of hill starts..the pedal is very sofrt/light though and it hasnt bothered me at all though...

if its a daily and your not pushing 300kw+ and you like to lend the car to your grandma, you may be better off with the organic..

if its more a mans toy with 300kw or more and you like to dump clutch and flog it a bit, def go the carbotic..

Have driven a few JB clutches. Yeah, no. Not a fan.

My Coppermix twin has done no less than 250 big RPM launches in its life (been in the car for 7 years in total). Pulled it out when I lunched then engine and its going straight back in. No rebuild, no new plates, no nothing. (There is pics of the plates in my build thread)

Feels a tad heavier than standard (esp with the Nismo slave).

There has been many threads about these things. Everyone that owns one won't use anything else. Speaks for itself I think.

Ok, I'm leaning Nismo then. I f'ing hate shuddering on take off from grabby clutches. My powerless Datto 1200 ute has a solid clutch (god only knows why!!!) and it shites me to tears in traffic! You look like a clown every time you try to creep off. It's like a switch, on or off. Shite.

yeah if you can afford it def get the coppermix and it looks like you can...

you have a much better car than i do, I didnt consider my car worthy of such expense.. actually I only paid half price for the npc.. :P

it is a great clutch though..

Depends on the car, depends on the power and depends where u wanna go with it.... I had a good chat to NPC but there was nothing off the shelf for me, it had to be modified to suit the power level... They were very helpful, but believe what u want when people talk power ratings.... How do you measure a clutch rating?

NPC do an off the shelf twin plate as well...that wasn't good enough for you Mat?

Also Simon S14 is hard drifting 360kws with a carbotic and said it performs great, it was on his recomendation I got one..so I'm curious why wasn't it good enough for yours?

Which then needs a pull to push conversion I think he said, plus twins are generally noisy and annoying...

NPC said they would need to modify the off the shelf item (the puck clutch shown) and it would be piggish in traffic... Not really a fan of that, they were great to talk too though... I said I needed one that could handle 400kw of all styles of driving...

I guess we will see how my new one goes and then I can actually give some legit feedback...

The couple of people I spoke to with JB clutches rate them highly and wouldn't look at anything else, soooooo I'll see how mine turns out, IF it's no good I'll go NPC :P but I doubt that'll be the case....

BTW I didn't think lightened flywheels were an advantage on an RB? What pros & cons are there?

Not many...this one has cooling channels in it..I think they help cool it when in traffic and such..Apparently this was a problem with JB clutches getting too hot as well and shortening their lifespan..

Flywheel being lighter can help bring revs up quicker, unfortunately it can also help them drop quicker when changing gears... this one is o ly a few kg lighter than stock so it's not too dramatic

It does drive like a button not a stock clutch. But it is very easy to live with, I can't imagine the JB being any better really..I haven't driven one though..

I think the standard weight flywheel is the go, I haven't heard of a clutch overheating... Even though I literally cooked mine (from epic slip)... I believe that the clutch plate will have more puks spread around it which may maker it more user friendly BUT I dunno yet, I'll find out next week when it arrives and report back so OP has a genuine bit of feedback on then :)

not overheating as such but just getting hotter than it should....probably from trying to ride it when it doesnt want to be ridden..

Anyway NPC recomend 1 thing JB recomends another...both work so meh, prolly doesnt matter what you get really .. :)

i probably would of gone the twin plate from NPC over the JB...or was it not recomended

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
