I have a set of rims that should be on my possession early next week and i'm doing a bit of running around looking at tyre brands and prices. The rims i have purchased are 20x8.5 F 20x10 R +25 offset all round. ATM i have 225/30/18 F 245/30/18 R on stock rims. I am looking at going for 245/30/20 F 275/30/20 R.

I have just got back from Bob Jane T-Mart in town after speaking to a female tyre "specialist" and to my surprise she actually knew what sort of car i owned. LOL JK, she tried telling me my V35 is manufactured with 17'' rims...

Anyway, i told her i trust her judgment in a good priced well rounded tyre with minimal road noise and with good wear, she recommended a set of Yokohama's for the sizes that i stated above. I was then advised that they cannot legally fit a 275 tyre on the back because it's 1mm out of the legal limit which is absolute BS.

So she then told me they can fit 265 in the same brand, so i asked how much it was for a set. $650 PER TYRE

Pretty much i just want to know where you guys have got your tyres from, at what price and what brand? There is no way in hell i'm paying $650 per tyre that's a joke.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, i need to buy something in the next 2 weeks so please help me out!

Also: Price range for a whole set i would say $1,200 absolute MAX. Thank you.

Hey Seano

I purchased my tyres for my wheels from http://www.thewheeldeal.com.au/

I got Achilles ATR Sports 235/35/19 front, 245/35/19 rear. My rim sizes are 19x9.5 fronts and 19x10.5 rear so the tyres are a little stretched but I like it. I believe they do have tyres for 20" rims. Just do some research into what sizes you want to run and have a look on that site. If you don't want Achilles ATR Sports, they sell other brands like Kumhos etc.

All up I paid $550 delivered for ALL 4 tyres (but my tyres were on sale) so have a look and see if they have anything that suits you.

Hope this helps.

Hey man thanks a lot for your reply, i just jumped on the website and got $610 for the lot delivered. Same brand as yours, do you know much about them? Road noise, wear rate, steering capability?

That price is excellent, just a matter of finding the best bang for my buck i guess.

I'm not too sure about wear rate since this is the first time buying this brand but I googled reviews from them here:

http://www.1010tires.com/Tires/Reviews/Achilles/ATR+Sport

Lots of good reviews so I'm trying them out, I've only had them on for about 1000kms so far but so far so good. For someone who doesn't normally drive my car hard, apart from the occasional cruise, it's good bang for buck. They grip decent and so far I can't complain.

Your best bet would be to do a little more research into them and see what you think. Thewheeldeal is awesome, they shipped my tyres out and i received them within a week and compared to other places I got quotes from, they seemed to be the cheapest.

Don't buy local. And I wouldnt worry if you have to go 265 on the rears, it wont look bad with a little bit of stretch like that.

send a PM to Taleb Tyres on here or email them via there site.

Just give them your rim sizes and what brand you are after. If your a little flexible on sizes, then they should be able to provide you with some options. I would reccomend the Kumhos for the price and quality they are

I got quotes from Option1 and Cartel but they just couldn't beat thewheeldeal's prices. Option1 sell alot of Achilles ATR Sport, that's how I heard about them. A guy from the 350z forum told me about thewheeldeal website so I went on to have a look and their prices are just too good.

Federal 595s aren't too bad.

Had them when I first got my wheels (245/35/19, 275/30/19) entire set for $860

However in the 20s the highest they go to is 255s.

I also recently purchased a pair of Kumho KU31s in 275/35/19 for about $360 a tyre.

much like 89cal said, give taleb tyres a ring, their prices are pretty competitve.

. ATM i have 225/30/18 F 245/30/18 R on stock rims. I am looking at going for 245/30/20 F 275/30/20 R.

my God...ur running 30 profile tires on an 18" rim? Thats the main reason you look lower than your mates car dude. They should be 225/45 and 245/45 on 18s...your speedo should be so far out.

Anyway I bought federal 595s from Option 1 Garage bout 2 months ago. Cost me around 800+ for a full set in 19s. Budget for about $1K for half decent tires in 20s.

ive got chinese ebay specials in similar sizes all round. $110 per tyre. 10,000km so far and no sign of wear. no complaints at all. tell them to stick their profit margin up their backsides.

I think i might give these a shot, at $610 delivered i can't complain and if i'm getting feedback from someone that actually has them fitted then i can't see how it's a bad buy.

I own the Achilles atr sport tires as well, they are excellent in the dry but not too great in the wet, as for road noise etc I'm not too sure since I've never noticed these things

Sweet, not too worried about the wet i drive carefully and always have traction on anyway. Plus i try not to drive in the rain anyway.

My mistake, i just checked again they are 225/40/18 & 245/40/18. I don't think my speedo is out, how can you even check that? Alright so i guess i'm tossing up between Achilles ATR sport, Kumho KU31's and Federal 595's.

Yeah no way am i getting ripped off in this town lol. Who would you recommend to fit the tyre to the rim for me in town?

Just found Kumho KU31's for $366 a tyre for 275/30/20, only problem is they don't have 245/30/20 it's only 245/35/20. Does that mean i need to have 35 on the back as well? I don't know what that second measurement means, this is the first time i've ever had to buy tyres.

The numbers in the tyre size mean the following:

245 - tyre width in mm

45 - tyre profile - this is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width - ie 245/45x18 tyre has a sidewall height of 110.25mm, so tyre diameter will be 18" (460mm) + 2 x 110.5mm = 680 mm (approx).

The next numbers & letters refer to the load rating & speed rating. It's illegal to run tyres with a lower load rating than the tyre placard fitted to the car lists - ie 03 coupe says 91W for the front, and 96W for the rear. The 91 & 96 are the load rating (96 means 710kg per tyre). The rear load rating may limit your tyre choice a bit.

There was a time when the speed rating of the tyres had to match the placard as well - I had an 86 Celica which had V rated tyres listed, and had to buy V rated tyres for it at the time. The choice was very limited, and very expensive. This was changed at some stage - tyres now have to have a minimum speed rating of S (this is in SA, may be different in QLD).

There are lots of tyre size calculators on the net - have a look at http://www.miata.net...e/tirecalc.html for an example. You can input the size & it will give you all the specs. You can find which 20" profiles are the same (or similar) size to the OEM 18's.

245/35-20 has a diameter of 680mm. Stock front diameter is 660mm, and stock rear is 680mm. You might need to look for a smaller profile for the fronts - 245/35 will be both wider & higher than stock, so may rub. They would also be illegal (in SA) as they are more than 15mm larger than the tyre size on the placard, so may become an insurance issue if you had an accident.

To check your speedo, compare to a GPS app - the Navigation on my Samsung phone gives a GPS speed reading, and my 03 coupe with stock 18" tyre sizes reads about 1-2kph higher than the GPS - when the speedo says 100kph the GPS shows 98-99 kph.

Goeff, thanks heaps for that information very helpful!

Same laws in QLD can't go more than 15mm larger.

that's a decent price you got on those.

Just to answer your question, its fine to be running the 245/35s on your fronts and the 275/30Rs. I ran that particular profile setup in the 19s, threw off the speedo by about 5km/h (100 on speedo, actually doing 95)

Your local tyre joints should be able to fit and balance for 15-20 a tyre if you supply the tyres. You should find Kumho cheaper than that if you shop around, We do Jap Nitto's for that kinda money, and Achilles fair bit cheaper, We dont sell the Kumho so cant help on those but they should be a fair bit cheaper than 366 a tyre.

245 35 and 275 30 20 is ideal.

(EDIT: can help get you the Kumho a fair bit cheaper if you like, just pm me.)

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
