Ok I'll confess to stupidity. I was trying to undo the actual pulley nut :) and not adjust the alternator position. Thanks to wrxhoon's post from a long time back, I loosened the bottom bolt and the adjusted via the bolts on top of the alternator.

Boy o boy it takes a while to turn bolts 1/8 turn at a time with the socket wrench being knocked off every two or three turns ;)

Happily, it is now adjusted and much tighter than before. It had at least 10mm of flex in it, now more like the 5mm it should. And... my first engine start in over a year that hasn't had a squealing fan belt! Such a pleasure to listen to! ;)

Plus, the new exhaust I fitted yesterday is sealed properly and leak free, hurrah! I'm a very happy boy. Brakes are bled and I can't wait to take it for a drive tonight.

@ hicas_posse: Rob I'll try and take some pics today but it's pretty hard to get close to. We'll see how we go.

Cheers

RESURRECTION!

One of the engine belts (either P/S or alternator, no A/C) in my R32 GTST is making a loud squealing noise on start-up.. does it occasionally when i first start it for the day or at midnight when I start it up after work.

Does anyone have the specs on belt tightness?

Also, can someone put that diagram back up please?

Thanks.

EDIT: Searched gallery and found that diagram.. so those specs would be same for RB20DET yeh?

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
