Well you may have read in another post that i said we at work are throwing round the idea of a possible track day...

Now before it become's a full go-er we need like some indication of how many people would be interested...

We also suggested that maybe the best time on the day will get a prize as would 2nd best and 3rd best etc etc.

Price to enter would be worked out and given out so you guys could get a rough idea of how much it would cost.

Just thought it might be a good idea so people can really go out and push their car's in a controled enviroment.

On another note IT WON'T BE A DRIFT DAY we want to try and get people DRIVING and NOT DRIFTING.

So just let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions or ideas to add

I am keen also, shame it wont be a drift/thrash/do what you want arrangement though:( Then again, with a bit of overzealous trail braking now and again:)

Anyways, have you though about doing a combined driving/drifting type event. Just run a few sessions, one to try for good times, one to try and destroy the rear tyres - keep everyone happy that way, probably get a few of the PSI and sylvia forum guys taking a bit more interest too.

Yeah well i was talking about that too like possibly half the day for drifting the other half for track, but like i said its still just an idea at the moment.

Im interested, however would it b stupuid fo me to take my car when it has no oil cooler?

If u got an oil temp gauge ( i got a oil pressure one as well) dont worry about it, just keep an eye on it. I think oil sh*ts it at 140 deg. so saty below that and you'll be fine.

Other wise id be careful about track work....drifto should be ok though...:boinkcar:

drifting is MUCH worse than track work, as you don't get constant air flow to help cool the radiator and hence oil. I ran my car out there on a track day and at one stage my oil hit 220 degrees fahrenheit! Normal oil temp is about 170-180f. I won't be heading out there again unless I get an oil cooler!

A triple core radiator would be useful too.

Having warmed up on a track day - it was two fast laps and one slow one then two fast ones again to keep the water temp down. No front mount intercooler and not running as much boost as most of you guys.

Also if you are planning on a full day of driving, spare front brake pads will come in very handy. I was shocked at how quickline the Skyline pulls up on the back straight for the hair pin but ate a set of pads in only four twenty minute sessions.

Since the comment on the GTR is that cause of the TT or because of the drive line?

If its to do with the drive line then i'll need a god damn oil cooler :S

Would still like to get out there too, gives me and other people a chance to learn the limits of their car's fully :)

The main reason why we want an oil cooler is to keep the oil cool. (NS lol). WHen its cooler, its much more viscous than at higher temps where it'll turn to water and you will loose significant pressure. Then you are putting your engine at risk.

So for those who dont have an oil cooler and would like to give their car some beef around the track, put some thick oil in, just for the day. Castrol R 10W-60 would be a good choice. It wont thin out anywhere near as much as a thinner 10W-40 etc. It'll retain its viscocity which will keep things under control. However the oil is still gonna get shit hot, so make sure you give the car some rest at appropriate intervals to prevent breakdown of the oil. My S14 has an oil cooler stock, a real crappy one but its still better than nothing.

Sure its no substitute for a real oil cooler, but a much better bet than not doing anything at all.

    • Man, different parts but the same numbers is terrible @dbm7! And it doesn't help that most online shops don't list the part numbers at all. They just give a list of compatible models...
    • Slow when hot could also be because its getting more dynamic compression, OR things are getting a bit tighter once it is all expanded. If it were an earthing issue, typically I'd expect you to have it have issues all the time. Unless it's really a combination of both things. Where the higher compression, and things being a bit tighter, is giving that bit of extra load and you do need a slight clean up on the cables/connections.
    • Yeah, this is one of the most annoying things about nissan part numbers... I've got an unrelated example... Image is of the AT output shaft ~ they have the same part#, but clearly the shaft on the left is beefier design to that on the right ...the difference (essentially) is the 'lighter' shaft on the right, is for engines up to RB25DE (this includes RB20 variants) : the shaft on the left is for RB25/26DET(T)....are they interchangeable? Yes...but obviously one shaft is going to be stronger than the other...and, the lighter shaft is around USD115, but the heavier shaft closer to USD150...same part#... ...epc-data usually tells a tale ~ the amayama listing for 39100-23U60 has a note "Longest side is between 60 and 105 cm" ; no such info is there for 39100-23U70 ...and given the great disparity in price between the 2 parts, it makes me at least curious (to the point of caution) where the 'extra money' went? ...ie; these 2 parts have a cost difference that (to myself at least) isn't explained by 'plastic boot'...ie; with amayama there's AUD700 price difference ...plastic versus rubber?...I'm not seeing it like that...and 60cm ~ 105cm...??...that's a huge disparity....something hinky going on here... I'd try searching by VIN, not model... /2cents
    • I don't know for sure, but I'd expect them all to be interchangeable given the diff end and hub end don't move/change between any C34 series. Often Nissan will change part numbers and the aftermarket follows those year ranges; but the original part number change doesn't mean other parts won't fit. The change could be a change in material, internal parts or even just supplier. For example, all the RB gearbox to engine bolts are no longer available and there is a new part number instead. The only change is they went from cadmium plated bolts to zinc plated due to the issues manufacturing with Cadmium. They look different but work the same.
