Hey,

What has happened to the Japanese Import Scene?

There was a lot of cheap s13's, 180's, 32's, gtst's that were being imported, where are they now?

why don't ppl bring over a bunch just for drift cars?

The cheapest s13's are going for 4g... thats auto ca18de with 100km on clock.(prob 200km)

for the same price you can buy an r33 gtst.(in poor looks) where's the logic in that?

and where are all those much loved drift cars with dents in every panel?

they'd make a sick rally car.(don't ask about susp) If you have one I want it... so what do you think, why can't there be an import of 200 s13's/r32/r33s just for drift machines?

Because people want to know what goes in their car from every bolt to turbo. or perhaps that no importer would bring in a car that has no real market to it, pre built by randoms anyway let alone they have been trashed hard.

Also the laws of compliance etc. is more strict now.

I don't actually know, but that's my general idea.

Shipping/Importing costs mean that a car you might only pay $2000 for - ends up being over $4000 landed/complied. And before you ask - you can't bring in a complete car without the intention of compliance <--- that's not 100% true, but for the sake of what you are asking/discussion, that's how it is.

Problem is then businesses need to make money - so no-one will then pay the money for a $2000 car that now costs $5500 now are they?

^that

and all the ones that were landed 5-10 years ago when S13's were the rage are now trashed, thrashed, defected off the road, in ditches or in parts. they're a 20yrd old car that is no longer desireable so anything that hasn't been looked after is worth more in parts than they are on the used market - so they just end up in junk yards.

it's no different to any other car - it's like saying 'why don't we see VL's on interceptors any more.

On topic...hang on what was the topic again...just got all distracted by the beauty of SVL088....oh yeah imports. The 15 year rule, which allowed older imports into Australia with less restrictions and costs to comply, was dropped a few years ago. This has made a huge difference to what is being imported nowadays.

It's probably also the fact there are just not many silvia's, 180sx etc around in Japan anymore. I think alot of the cars are harder to find now which is partly contributed to the natural disaster in Japan early 2011, along with the tragic loss of life, thousands of cars were destroyed as well.

Le sigh.

Paul, I dunno man.

I can't tell if I'm into VL wagons or not.

Got any pics with roof racks on?

Sorry for the temporary hijack. Here are a few pics Josh, I don't have many pics with roof racks because it isn't my thing.

    • Hello Liam - HA - somewhere in flies - possibly I have an update, but I have been so busy, projects have taken a back seat to getting business back on track.  I will let you know the outcome, but I think I am going to go for the 8HP,  CHEERS.  ELVIS
    • Thanks Joshuaho96, yes - as someone else also suggested, the 8HP seems the 'smart choice' - HA - and ZERO to do with cost, but I am sure 8 speeds will be better than 6 speeds - HA - maybe.  I will purchase a new 8HP,  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Nobody said anything about getting a "...cheap Falcon box..."- it was JUST a question about a specific transmission.  And YOU may have a problem with not enough $ - HA - I do NOT - so please keep your comments like you are some financial guru to yourself.  BUT - much appreciated re the cost of a new 8HP and I twill probably be the way I go.  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Most people I know in the BMW world are swapping 6HPs for 8HPs. The 6HP has a big issue with one of the clutch drum bushings wearing out shockingly early which leads to them going into limp mode going into 5th/6th gear as the oil pressure loss from the worn bushing causes clutch slip. Even with the adaptations in shifting the TCU can't bump line pressure enough to keep the clutches from slipping and burning. I've personally looked at a 335d with 6HP28 with one owner and ~90k miles on it and the transmission adaptations were way out of spec and even though it nominally drove ok I'm confident it would have needed a full rebuild sooner than later. Other than that they're fine, but the 8HP doesn't really have weird issues like this to my knowledge and they're in everything these days so pulling them out of crashed cars isn't too hard.
    • There is an ABS pump and a few solenoids. You could trigger the front/rear solenoids with a pressure bleeder attached with a Consult 2.
