Even if my compression test comes back favourably (may be too tired to bother with futher mods) im interested in hearing the input of others.

Anyone out there with an R34 GTT or an RB25DET NEO engine fitted to an earlier car.

Looking at the stats, they have the same HP and almost the same torque (NEO @ lower revs) as an R32 RB26DETT (were Nissan underrating HP for the GTR even back then)

I know for all out performance the RB26 has more potential but the NEO is a little bit cheaper and a lot newer and also an easier bolt in for an R32 GTST.

Unless you look at R33/34 RB26 which will also require a computer the RB26 wouldnt seem to be that better an engine in light tune, ie exhaust/filter/boost/IC.

Are the NEO engines a big improvement over the R33s engine.

I would love the banshee noise of an RB26 DETT but money comes before engine note.

Looking at a piece of paper can be decieing i know, but the NEO has a lot more torque than R33, and more HP. I think HPI did an article a few years ago on the NEO when the GTT was first released, and i recall they had considerable internal changes as well.

I would love to spend $$$ on internals and revs for my RB20DET (Go the Gibson R31 GTS-R, they sounded sweeeeeet) but i suspect this would cost more and produce less usable power. Don't really know, $5000 on blueprinting RB20DET or bolt in NEO/R32 RB26

Anyway getting ahead of myself, i have no reason at this stage to believe my engine may need a rebuild/replacing , but before i go to the considerable expense of turbo, diff and plenum i should ensure my baseline engine is sound.

of course you should roy there are a number of mods needed to fit an rb 25 to a r32 remember that heater hoses etc. teh r33 ecu is more compatible.

one thought is to buy a stuffed rb25 det and put in gtr pistions and possibley crank & rods then you have a good basis for 250 rwkw kw all day every day the rb20 can give you that type of figure with out going for the full forged rebuild.

you could probably see 220 rwkw on the track for longer races.

oil cooler is nessacary.

think long and hard

plenium is really essential and the money could be spent else where just my thoughts.

meggala

Did you mean to say plenum isnt really essential. I know but the idea is that one day ill have the basic ingredients for a tough engine.

To this end i am able to get my hands on a Greddy inlet off an RB25, which i can make fit my engine. If my current engine is good for more abuse then this will alow me to build an RB30DET in the shed whilst still driving my "ROAD" car. Some would say my IC is overkill, brakes overkill, susp overkill, desired diff overkill, and desired turbo too big for an RB20.

Then when ready remove RB20, in goes RB30DET (OR NEO) with the good bits inc. Greddy manifold, which may not be a necessary performance modification, but i feel is warranted.

Because??? Well the block height of RB30 means i would like to avoid running 3" pipe accross the head, also the pipe in front of cooler gets shit hot during track work, and HPC coating is a good option but cost $$$ and in my eyes is a band aid solution. Also i want the shortest inlet tract possible, and of course aesthetic reasons.

Also ive heard the RB bolt in stories, and realise they arent truly bolt-in & play options, but i have the resources to do almost all the work myself, including custom fabrication.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
