Yeah, try the 10psi and if it freaks out, slap the 5psi back on or even that with the old stock solenoid dealy earthed to 7psi...

could be interesting indeed.

I've always wondered whether the Altitude difference between coast and here would make a noticeable difference in tune also.

Yeah will see how we go.

Hmm I had never thought of that. Might look into it. Hopefully it's not an issue

So this morning I topped up the coolant only to find that the banjo bolts on the turbo weren't tight enough and coolant starting leaking from them. Tightened them up to stop the leak.

But now the car seems to be overheating, or my cheap ass water temp gauge has crapped itself :/ Just at idle after a couple minutes the water is up around 80-90 degrees.

The gauge doesn't seem to drop below 70 degrees, even when the coolant is ambient. But when the gauge is up around 90 the water feels like it would be around that temperature.. My thoughts are maybe there's air in the cooling system. Tried to bleed it this morning but am unsure if its successful or not.

Found a couple fairly loose intake pipes but as far as I know there is no correlation between boost leaks and overheating?

Will have to continue tackling things later as I am heading down the coast tomorrow morning for the long weekend with some mates. Might think about completely flushing the cooling system and starting again

Air in the system

bleed the hell out of it

Jack the front of the car up...or face it up a decent hill

Use a coke bottle cut in half in the rad cap, and keep filling that bitch until no more air bubbles

Yep, never had to use the bottle trick but Uphill / Jacked front etc and cracking the Bleeder bolt seems good.

Yeah was reading different ways to do it this morning.. Do you leave the radiator cap on when doing that?

Nah, I leave it off and crack the bolts, the more places for air to escape the better IMO...

a few small revs helps to push the air out too.

oh and have the heater on Full Blast aswell.

Its nearly impossible to bleed it fully once.

You need to do it two or three times, each time making sure the bleed is at the top (usually car facing uphill) and yeah it has to warm up so the thermostat opens.

Theres another bleed at the back of the head, for the heater system. Its a total pain to get at. On my HCR32 its a rubber nipple like a closed off hose, on the heater hoses that run behind the head. You want the heater on hot so it lets any air through.

And intake leaks will make it lean under vacuum and rich under boost. Lean is hot and detonating. Bad.

I'm getting quite quick at doing this as I always have to do something to do with coolant. Jack it up as everyone said and stick a coke bottle. Let it idle and watch some TV. You may have to refill when the level goes down.

    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY
    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
    • Look at @Kinkstaah's thread on the issue.
