I received my boost gauge today but I'm having a lot of trouble installing it.

I've taken the hose that connects from the throttle body to the boost sensor, out of the boost sensor and put my T piece there. I have a short hose connecting the T-piece back to the sensor and the last hose attached to the T-piece is the one that runs to the gauge. The hose supplied to me had a larger diameter than the hole drilled into the back of the gauge, so i carefully used a screwdriver and incresed its diameter so that the hose fits tightly inside.

Now... if I have done anything wrong so far, let me know.

For the electricals... I got really confused. I don't have a screwdriver long enough to reach up into the steering wheel column and get the 4 screws that require a pretty thin and long neck lol. SO what i decided to TRY to do was connect it through the fuse box under the bonnet. I tried putting the red wire (manual says it's supposed to go to ignition (12V)) to the 30A "ignition" fuse and grounded the gauge on a bolt on the chasis inside the car.

When i turn on the car, i hear a lot of air going into the gauge through the house, but when i increase the throttle, the gauge doesn't work :(

Please help!!

P.S there are 2 other wires on the gauge harness (yellow one = standard ignition, white one = ignition light?)

I don't have a multimeter so I can't test what wire is active when the car is on, or when the lights are turned on.. but i can always tap into the cigarette lighter light i guess.

There shouldn't just be a "hole" in the back of the gauge, there should be a nipple to put the hose onto and you shouldn't hear any air.

That's a leak. Do you have a pic of the back of the gauge?

Power for the gauge is easier to get from the cig lighter itself and light it off the cig light.

LOL. You are gonna have to connect the sensor too!

You have bought an electronic Boost gauge. The sensor has the hose go to it and it sends the signal to the gauge.

(just like the stock gauge).

A mechanical Boost gauge has the hose go straight into it. no sensor.

But the gauge i bought is mechanical, it isn't electronic :\

this is the ebay link to it

lol, oh man i'm so confused now...

HMM ok, but the sensor only has one nipple on it. How am i supposed to attach the hose from the T, and then attach another hose to the gauge if there isn't anywhere to run the hose from? lol

The sensor comes with a wiring loom, hopefully i don't run into trouble hooking that up..

no hose goes to the gauge, from what i see, hose goes from t to the sensor, then one plug goes into the sensor, and another into the back of the gauge, then the wires are wired up to the car... thats what it looks like

Got it installed today! wiring was a bit all over the place lol, but done in the end. I'm not sure about its accuracy because it's basically reading the same (but showing im boosting a bit less) than stock.

Need to find a trusted gauge to calibrate it next to lol.

cheers for the info guys.

P.S is it just me, but whenever i'm working on my car taking stuff apart and putting new stuff in, something that was in my hand 2mins ago just goes missing for like the next 10mins? lol

sorry to bring this thread alive again, but it's regarding the guage. it works fine and everything, but the one thing i didn't get time to hook up was the light switch wire.

So i tried hooking it up today and tapped into the cigarette lighter light, so that the backlight of the gauge would only turn on when my headlights are on.

HOWEVER, for some reason when i turn on the light (one click to turn the parker lights and interior dash lights on), the fuse blows up!

The 10A fuse underneath the bonnet that's labelled on the fuse box cover as "Head L RH" keeps blowing up. I've replaced it 4 times now, and i don't know why it's doing that :( Shouldn't tapping into the cigarette lighter light work? :s

P.S I've tried opening up the steering wheel column and finding a wire to tap into when the light is switched on, but the looms are crazy tight and i can't access any wires.

Have you tried putting an ammeter in the circuit to the gauge's lighting wire to see what current it is drawing when you give it 12V? It might be drawing an enormous current due to being f**ked.

no i haven't tried that. That would explain it though... if the amps are too high, would soldering a few resistors together fix it up?

    • Hello First, I apologize if this is not the correct forum. Let me know and I will move it to the correct one. I'm having a problem with the tachometer on my Skyline R33 with an RB25DET Neo engine. I'll tell you from the beginning. I'll tell you from the beginning. I have the RB25DET Neo engine installed in a Nissan Patrol GU, with a Link G4X control unit specifically for that engine,  and I have fitted a Skyline R33 tachograph to the original GU dashboard, but it doesn't work properly. I have the tachometer connected to the positive and negative terminals of the GU panel's wiring, and the signal cable is connected directly to the ECU output pin, but the rpm fluctuates widely. Can anyone tell me if the output signal from an R33 ECU is the same as the output signal from an R34 ECU, or if the voltage and signal type are different? Regards and thanks.
    • I guess it was the thought about "Oh if I were to drive this everyday". Then no, SL500 I wouldn't really consider lmao.
    • Yeah actually really fair point. Idk what I was thinking when looking at the SL500. Now that I think about it, I feel like I would have more enjoyment out of a shitbox that I would need to repair than some fancy merc. Although I must admit the SL500 does look quite nice. My bad hahaha.
    • 100% Also "Not wanting to spend money" is THE WORST IDEA IMAGINABLE when coming to a project car of any kind. They EXIST to BURN MONEY. Sure, gas money is a thing. A stock car with the worst fuel economy ever sold would probably be cheaper than modifying a car with FREE petrol for the life of your ownership of it, lol.
    • Amount of time you're being observed by law enforcement is so minute, that you could be a dumb shit 90% of your driving time, and never lose a demerit. You could also be the best driver ever and still get hit with a fine.   When you realise how quickly everything turns from "Wee, we're having fun!" To "oh f**k oh f**k oh f**k", you start to realise the only way to be a good driver, is to not be doing anything dumb or unexpected by normies on the road. You want to go fast, go to the track. Someone there in a 1990s slow POS will also show you how bad of a driver you are as they lap 10 seconds per lap quicker than you can in a car that should be considerably faster.
