What about a program or segment showing the jobs the car scene has created, the way it gives kids something of interest and keep them away from other (far more serious) crime, the good things that people are involved in like the ever increasing drift circuit, the MC series etc?

Its definately about time that people put there heads together and gave some sort of co-ordinated response to this sensationalist non-sense before we are all banned from driving anything over 600cc.

only problem is the current affairs type show would then twist ur story make car/bike enthusiats be a bunch of drug dealers and chop shop owners etc..

Its an interesting idea. I think a radio doco for JJJ might be a place to start, they are more accepting then other outlets. Interviews with import enthusiasts, drifters, modders, SAUWA types and people on a cruise, plus lots of great sounds of BOVs, drifts etc. A piece about the culture, how it fits into society and what it means to the lives of the people involved.

The good thing about radio is that no faces :) .

I've got no dramas with those PE guys or the NE guys, they were all pretty good, and on high end equipment. Just another slop for the cops white trash tv beat up. Must have been light on for miracle diets for fat slags and morons coplaining about 10k mobile bills.

Speaking of dumb things on video, is that "Street Racer" video coming out? I couldnt believe the stupidity of putting such behaviour out for public consumption. Will be enough reason for another blitz on modified cars...

Jash

Well said Jash, was thinking the same thing is this the ideal time to be putting out a video such as that? perhaps if it were in a controlled environment then perhaps wouldn't be soo bad however due to the whole crack down and media coverage perhaps now is not the best time.....

only problem is the current affairs type show would then twist ur story make car/bike enthusiats be a bunch of drug dealers and chop shop owners etc..

yeah they tend to do that with those stories... its always biased in some way...

we don't all speed crazily, and nearly most of the time everyone just goes from 0 to 60-70 in like, 1-2 seconds and then cruise it at 70 the rest of the way. That isn't speeding is it? Unless u get done for some other offence, like dangerous or reckless driving :)

But the TV Stations always portray us as ALWAYS speeding... and I dont even speed most of the time...

And thats my two cents... that'll take care of some SOBs... *Yas in trouble* What the!?

I wonder if there is any case for a defamation/discrimination charge of some sort against the tv station as it sounds like the story was deliberately trying to be provocative...

hmmm....

Be interesting if we could make a doco on this and say that because of a vocal ignorant minority the majority of enthusiats get screwed over.

It has to be defamation cause they are generalizing the majority.

Is this "Street Racer" vid the one that was being played behind the C-red stand at the Motorshow? I saw a few stupid things as i walked past, at some stage i saw a guy trying in vain to smash a bottle over his head. I can see how that is not going to help the cause any.

SRP,

My issue with your video was the taping and exhibition of the sort of dumb shit that idiots like Grant Dorrington think we all do all the time. Doesnt paint you guys in the best light, although neither does the whole "Street Racer" tag. Everyone engages in that sort of behaviour at one time or another, be it in a controlled environment, or on the road, but to whack it on a video for public consumption is doing nothing for enthusiasts and the industry as a whole.

Jash

I know its late but....

Just on the topic of trying to promote the fact that all jap imort drivers arent hoons etc.

It doesnt even matter *if* you got a semi good natured story on today tonight or a current affair. Ppl may see the story then go out on the road the next night & see some 20 y/o in their R33 weaving through traffic doing 100kms in a 60 zone.

Now, I dont know anyone that bought their import jus to look good - of course they ocasionly get throttle happy. But you know as well as I do that anyone in any type of hotted up car is gonna do the same & give it some. It just so happens that Imports got cracked down on.

A story isnt going to change ppls opinions because it wont be true, & if they did believe it then they r mighty gullable. Id like to have someone tell me that they havent raced someone, or got their car sideway or gone over the speed limit. But like I said, its not just an import thing.

Dont get me wrong, Im not dissing anyone at all. Even if you were the best skyline driver & didnt do any of that, you would have to be one of very few, am I right? even if you dont do it very often.

Yea sure, there are positives to the import scene...... but you dont need a story on the ppl involved. ppl make up their own minds when they drive down the street & see our cars.

I know this is an old thread - but I think there is still more to add,, and this is my first post - though I have been lurking for a while.

And also, for anyone who was on the cruise on sat night from innaloo bunnings I was the driver of the Silver R33 GTR.

Anyway, that said,,,

Ive been fortunate enough to grow up around cars and mechanics, Ive rebuilt V8s and old Datsuns and you name it, so ive seen lots of different car scenes from all different points of view.

It doesnt matter if your in the jap import scene, holden, ford v8 scenes, even things like vintage cars and italian cars (i also have a 1974 Fiat/Pininfarina/Ferrari 130 coupe!), they all still have a bad name amoungst the upper middle class. They see anyone who has any interest in anything apart from the stock market and fine wines as a hoon. I am generalising a lot, I know a lot of older well off people who dont think like that at all. What most people worry about though is when some teenager on their P plates whos rich parents just bought them a Lancer Gli and a fat exhaust and kit canes it down their street and ploughs over a child. The reputation of any motor vehicle enthusiast club suffers from things like this.

If attitudes are going to change its going to take a lot of time and for people who do put their right foot down to do so in a courteous manner - Dont ****ing cut me off when I am driving my work van, I cant stop in that space. Dont ****ing tailgate slow driving old lady from Salvation Army retirement home - back the **** off and wait till you can pass. Dont plant your foot to make it through those amber lights - you can wait 3 minutes to get your ****ing big mac and chips.

Having said that - I love planting my foot - in any car - and over the past few weeks that I've had this beast I have greatly enjoyed leaving people behind at the lights. Do it sensibly though, and people may chill out about it. If youre old enough to afford a performance car then you are old enough to limit yourself.

Argh thats my spiele for the week.

Mikeru_r33: I think I know you, I wont say your last name on here though - Mike O'B? Did you go to the academy? I did audio there - gone now though. Also Im good friends with Tom S and Sean G. small world hey.

Adios Amigos.

    • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
