Hi

Have noticed my R33 box is leaking at the rear where the tailshaft connects

I have a year old reciept for the seal being changed

Then i remembered gearboxes have a bush that the tailshaft sits in, and if they are warn out a new seal will flog out in no time.

All i can find about this bush is that Nissan dont sell then they only sell a complete rear extension housing

What has anyone done when they need to replace this bush?

Thanks

Are you talking about the spigot bush? Because that's at the front of the gearbox, sits in the rear of the crank.

There is no bush that the tailshaft sits. The female yoke sits over the male spline and the seal sits on the outside of the female yoke

There is a bronze bush behind that seal. I found the part number online somewhere and was able to order one from Nissan but it took so long to come from Japan I ended just knocking the old one back in. I was rebuilding the box but the bush was not worn anyway.

If you are unable to source one I'm sure most engineering places should be able to turn one up for you.

Maybe remove the tailshaft and see how the sealing surface on the slip joint/yoke looks before doing anything else.

If that is damaged or worn it could be causing the leak.
