Hi All,

Considering purchasing a new shift knob for the R32 GT-R as the OEM one looks cheap, nasty... and frankly a bit "arse" (that's a technical term :) ).

Anyway, what aftermarket shift knobs are people using, and how do they rate them?

I also liked the look and feel of the S2000 knob: anyone know if the fitment is the same as on a 'line?

LW.

Im using a Nismo Carbon Fibre shift knob..

use to have the titanium version nice knob but got stolen

and a trust light globe knob, which sucked

I prefer the good ol stick shaped knob

My nismo carbon fibre Set me back $120

Personally i dont like it, its not big enough and doesnt have much weight to it...i prefer the razo carbon fibre...has good weight and bigger.

lwells if you are indecisive like me, try  a a few ;)

I have a nismo, trust, top secret, momo and factory gearknob.

Thats what impulse buying does.

LOL... if I had an endless bank account, I would :(

At this stage I am considering the Momo Race and Race 'S', but they are both ball types, which I am not positive I like.

I was also looking at getting one or the nismo knobs from Dave's group buy, but they seem quite slim and lone. What I really want is a hybrid, like the S2000, that is long enough so your don't feel you holding a tennis ball or space invaders joystick, but also rounded and bulbus towards the top so you can use your palm:

Does anyone make gear knobs like the BMW M3 ones? well the non-SMG ones... The M3 Logo and H pattern are back-lit? Does anyone make back-lit H Pattern ones? Cos that's always tickled my fancy when i saw the 6 sp M3 gear knobs :(

Nismo leather one is quite good and simple. A bit of a "sleeper": doesn't attract too much attention when you have leave your car parked. Titanium one or the one with aluminium style are nice, but I personally not very happy with them during summer where after parking your car a long time, it can get very hot and scorch your hand.

Guess you wouldn't like mine then... it is a #6pool ball. and yes I guess it makes the gear lever look like a giant spacies joysticj, but the pool ball is perfect size to ft my hand.

each to their own.

Oh, it was $10 from the local Amart sports. Not a greenie like some carbon knobs.

usually with my metal nismo one, i find that slipping a sunglasses slip over the top stops it from getting hot during summer :P my tip to you all :) as yup, kinda hard to drive when you can't even touch the gearstick - one disadvantage.

ball ones i don't like, drove one once. felt odd. for trucks and crap.

The tall cylindrical ones i think are cool because you can just bang them with the palm of your hand, and i think helps to give me (at least) quicker shifts. The moulded style ones are nice to hold onto and give a "surer" throw, but you're not meant to be holding onto it anyhow (bad for gearbox i have been told)

lucien, you'll find MOST momo knobs actually use screw with an allen key end that you tighten so it holds against the stick.

You should consider one like this:

Unfortunately it isn't listed in Dave's group buy, but Japan Parts do have it:

http://www.japanparts.com/shop/shop.cgi?mo...ype_third=NISMO

listed @ $180AU (I'm waiting on a response from them if it includes shipping). Nissan Australia can get you it for $300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically, you screw down the bit thats in the bottom right corner of the first picture, then you put the knob on, then you screw the bit in the top right corner of the picture.

It's titanium, and it looks awesome.

Hopefully I'll be getting one in the next two months, so I'll let you know how it goes if you haven't got yours yet.

Jason.

edit: The Japan Parts picture does NOT do it justice as they've scanned it in from the Nismo catalogue

lucien, that's a damn nice pic :)

I will let you know as soon as I've heard from Japan Parts .. I emailed them about 4 or 5 days ago and no response. Might have to ask a mate who has rellies in Japan to see if he can sort something out for me :)

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
