Just been reading in the papers and the car mags, and the new FORD BA XR6 Turbo is coming out 230 kw stock.

Its a 4.0 turbo six, and at 230kw stock i would say it has alot of potential being a 4.0 with a little mods exhuast and bit more boost probaly close to 300KW, so beleive it or not in about 4 months where going to be driving around and see fords, with FMIC, BOV's and even cop cars with TURBOS!

I guess there good and bad to this,

BAD- Fords are going to beating probaly alot of skylines GTS-T's

GOOD- Cops may not pick on us JAP turbo cars cause theres a aussie car with turbo and it will become normal! (maybe im just hoping 2 much)

Anyways Next year around feb , its going to be a interesting to see how this TURBO 4.0 SIX's to and how many get done up, i think it might be a new cult car since the WRX is not as pretty anymore.

What u guys think? FORD'S eating Skylines (since we mostly worry about commordores SS espicially now I think we going to be worrying about FORDS) ! !! and with FMIC and BOVS

and cop cars with turbo fords!

You obviously havent seen the NEW WRX which is due in the not to distant future. Front has been reworked to look muck like a cross between a B4 and an Evo 7, no more BUG eyes.

and yeah Cops in falcon turbos will be to high maintenance and cost to operate. I think they would lean more towards SS commodores in this case.

my 2cents

Yeah they're looking pretty damn good aren't they? I might have to pick one up when I'm all old.

I wouldn't worry too much about stock ones, though. The base model XT weighs almost 1800kg or something close (not sure of the XR6T weight) and they've only got 240kw in XR6T trim. Boost them up a bit and chuck a few bolt ons on and then we'll have something to worry about.

My friend has just been testing the new V8 Falcon soon to be released. He says it has good susp for a stock car, good brakes and a bucket load of grunt and grip thanks to traction control. Plus a few new features not released on previous fords.

Hes guessing its got about 280kw, he says its quicker than any other falcon including the turbo, but he only drove an early development of the turbo.

People who have jobs in the automotive industry shit me.

The xr6 turbo's will definately be able to run on normal unleaded, all that happens is the timing is retarded as soon as the knock sensor senses any funny business.

As for them making big power with just a few add ons, unless you deal with the over protective computer, you could actually go backwards. Thats why the aps/capa kits are so popular.

The other thing is they will be an absolute whore to get off the line on the street, with the amount of torque they have and the amount that they weigh, getting them up off the line will be a very tricky balance between disapearing in a cloud of wheelspin and bogging down.

i dont know if this has been posted before but does the new ford turbo 6 happen to be called the typhoon.

yup thats the new FPV version anyways. Gotta love that 550nm of torque :)

makes LS1's look weak

    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
    • Yeah, I would have said the same. It makes me suggest that there are other things wrong, such that the ECU is totally unhappy with the broken sensor. The only other thought here is that maybe it is shorted, which might cause a different issue to the typical "disconnected" sensor.
