Hi Guys,

Truly appreciate all your help as it helps me out quite a bit.

I'm ready to install my oil catch can setup but I'm a little confused as to where i am going to put the little "filter" to make my crankcase still ventable.

I've got a Greddy can which has (2) inlets, my PCV valve is capped off, and my (2) breathers up top T together and would only use up (1) Greddy oil can inlet; which leaves the other inlet on the catch can open. Should i place the little filter on this open inlet?

^^^as above. I have plumbed mine into the intake. If you vent to atmosphere

1. its probably illegal

2 you can get undesirable smells wafting into the cabin

3 you may get oil mist making a mess of your engine bay.

IIRC, as a general rule of thumb

if PCV is blocked aren't you meant to leave it vent atmo....in which case just put a filter on the empty port

If you plumb it back to intake, then put your PCV back in...

I found that out the hard way, it's the whole reason for asking. I was vent to the intake pipe but had massive amounts of low by in the intercooler pipes.

Unblock the PCV and plumb it into the intake, the system works better like that.

You would be better off ditching that empty can to, even with steel wool they don't do a lot. I had one in my car for a good 2 years and there was never a drop in it, not even condensation. My new properly baffled catch can picks up a fair bit of condensation.

I would rather not. I run a blow-through setup so connecting back the PCV and routing my breathers back to the inlet would mean i would then have a vacuum leak at idle as the PCV is pulling in air from the valve covers through the breathers which are now BEFORE the maf as it's in blow through.

Also, I opened up my inter cooler piping and had TONS of oil/blow by so I'm almost positive a catch can will be better for my setup.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
