I've never seen a painted set for sale or anyone with an owned painted set?

I'd love a set of black LMGT4's, but i can only find silver/white sets for sale. So the question is if i was to paint LMGT4's is that allowed? Or would i be the worst person ever

I've got 2 sets of LMGT4s Zac. Welcome to SAU.

1) 18x10.5 came across from Japan on my former VS2. They were bronze. When I wanted them powdercoated Nismo Black at Craved Coatings, Chris told me they were originally white.

2) 18x9.5 GT500 set came from Import Monster. I had them powdercoated Nismo Black too.

On both sets, Chris inserted a resin that resists dust sticking to the powdercoat. It's a satin finish. :)

Jealous, I'd love a black set just like that! Found a set in the size i want on gumtree but they're silver. Just wasn't sure if getting them painted/powder coated was a done thing or not. 18*9.5 for rears and 18*8.5 for fronts. I'll just need to find someone to do them before i go ahead and buy them then!

Just don't DIY. I DIYed my set and looks terrible. How much did it cost you to powder coat it at craved terry? Did they bring it back to bare?

I was never going to be game enough to DIY and set of these. I've done many cheap rims and they look great. But i'd hate to stuff up on 2k worth of wheel :)

Hi Rick

Both sets blasted back to bare > powdercoat/resin > $400 cash per set

That's quite fair. Still leaning between weather to get gloss black with a bare/clear lip or full satin like yours. Don't want it too blinged up sex spec but I do like the bare lip from the previous wheels I had. It gave the rims an "edge"

I've had matte black rims both painted and powder coated in the past. What I've found is that powder coating won't give you quite as "matte" a finish as opposed to actual painting. Here are my LMGT4's that were freshly painted black:

If you compare that to the above pictures you can see the difference in finish. It's all up to personal preference as to which you prefer. Just a heads up though.. as I was expecting a painted black finish when I got my first set of TE37's powder coated.

Wow, there is quite a difference between the two sets. I do like the matte finish alot! Given me a abit to think about, thanks for the heads up about the different finishes

hardest part of getting them black, is trying to match the WHITE nismo sticker.

can find genuine black items with a bit of ease, but white are scarce as hens teeth.

oh, love my factory black lmgt4's :D

now i just need some 18's....

  • 3 months later...

You would want to be extremely careful putting those back on once taken off as the adhesive probably wont be as strong and may just fly off if able to get back on in the first place. As mentioned the best thing to do would probably be to keep them as a reference. If you would like to put them back on I would be thinking some sort of laminate/film over the top just in case to keep it down.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
