I trial fitted this 6boost low mount with gt3076 and have a few questions.

1) is this external wastegate pipe on the right angle or will it likely over boost ( want to run 18-20psi)

2) the compressor virtually sits ontop of the engine mount, after some shaving im estimating about 10mm clearance at most, so is that enough with engine movement etc?

3) the split on the manifold doesnt run right upto the gate, will that have much effect on the results?

thanks in advance.

It should be ok, better than most internal gates anyway. It would have more issues holding lower boost, 20psi will be no issue.

The compressor barely moves in relation to the engine mount.

Is it a split pulse turbo and manifold but without the splitter in the gate pipe? It shouldn't be too bad, any reason it wasn't made split though?

yeah its split manifold and turbo but theres not splitter in the gate pipe, I thought buying a 6boost all this stuff would be spot on and not need to do extra work on it.

since ive gone this far should i have a splitter welded in or have it shortened ?

It's up to you Mark, seeing you have most of the manifold split, it seems a cop out to skimp on that little bit of pipe, but perhaps Kyle can't be bothered, or doesn't know how to split the single pipe?

It would add complexity and hence price to the manifold making it cheaper, easier and better flowing to just go with the twin gate setup I guess.

So i spoke to my tuner today and showed him the manifold, apparently boost spiking is very common and i should change the angle of the gate pipe.

so im getting paranoid about what is the best thing to do here, options i can see

1) buy a second gate and hope that theres enough room to squeeze it all in being a low mount setup

2) try to exchange the manifold for a high mount plus have 2 gates

3) have the wastegate gate welded to the turbine housing

Im starting to think option 3 would could be the best because it would fit in the tight space , and also the split is divided more equally and probably a better chance of getting pressure on the gate compared to up on the manifold where theres 6 pipes converging...

is this an option?http://www.sr20-forum.com/turbo/48252-single-wastegate-twinscroll-manifold.html

Would mounting the Gate off the exhaust housing with a Y section to split both sides of the scroll be the best way to control boost and also possibly get a better result over all with a TS? this is using one 44mm gate..

is this even possible ?

Any updates on this?

I am planning an almost identical setup. I want to run lowmount Gt3076r but using a Brae Fabrications manifold rather than 6boost.

heres the manifold in question:

Im pretty sure the gate pipe on his is in the same spot but I was thinking maybe have no gate pipe and weld the gate off the housing like this v v :

You wouldn't even notice the difference if you try to keep the split up to the gate or just weld the outlet on the housing with no split extended up it. I didn't bother with continuing the split when I went from twin gates on the manifold to one gate off the exhaust housing and there was no difference in response other then we could control boost properly.

    • They're all horrible. X-Trails have had a nasty sounding 4cyl since forever, no matter what engine family it came from. The CVTs only made that worse. Then the whole Renault thing only made every Nissan that was contaminated by them even worse again. The only fun I've had in a X-Trail was having it blown sideways across a frozen Minnesota highway at 90 mph trying to make it to the airport to get out of the frozen hellhole of Hoth. Nearly died. Was great fun.
    • Alrighty, I'll have to grab a couple pics and type out something soon in another post. I haven't driven a modern X no, this would be the first one really. Yeah the rental boxes are always cheap as chips right? So I'd doubt that anyone was handing out GTs to go and abuse. But I s'pose I could be wrong for sure. New cars these days though? Pretty unimpressed with what I see now; 20 years and all that, like you said. It just kind of worked out to have these two cars now. I'm pretty pleased with that, don't need much else. I'm sure you lads are right about the temps and for sure, you wouldn't have much time to drive 'em down there if you all were like me. I do hate sweating all over the seats though😆
    • Let large companies that are making money off selling kits do the preliminary engineering for you. If they all do -10, then that is all you'll ever need.
    • Hopefully it ends up being something manageable, like a hone, rather than a full bore—it would be a huge relief if it’s not as bad as it looks. Hang in there; these setbacks are annoying, but it sounds like you’re handling it as smartly as possible.
    • At the end of the day, it’s all about understanding the odds and being comfortable with the potential cost, whether it’s horsepower on a build or chips on a roulette table. And I have to say, the Laine example made me laugh—some people really do embrace that carefree, “roll and see” attitude!
