if your serious... and that's a big if.

Your best chance at a good time without alot of seat time or skills is...

You need a drag based auto.... think used c6 or 2 speed glide that has been built for drag with trans brake.

Bellhousing

Converter

Shifter

Drive shaft

Weld diff

Used slicks

Line locker

Stock suspension

Strip EVERYTHING out you don't need for the race.

Obviously then big turbo, fuel system etc.

If you can buy right, a 10sec run for 10k is very doable...

TBH thread is a bit of a joke mate...but it is interesting none the less...

I have spoken to a few guys at the strip about benefits of transbrakes and such, pricey buggers, that is 5k worth of box and brake, how much would you get one s/h for you think.. I was leaning towards an auto anyway...maybe I will ditch my manual box and build a drag car :P

how much power would be needed with all that though you think? 350,400kw should be enough ...which means a T67 could do it...

Good point XRATED with drag built auto transbraked. The cost alone for a auto would be 5k wouldn't it? That's only reason I didn't list a auto. But it's probably a must if you could get onto a decent cheap 2nd hand one

you can get reasonably well built glides with bell housing, flex plate and converter from the vl girls under 4k....

everyone underestimates how hard it is to get a powerful manual skyline off the line cleanly for good times at that power level. you could spend 2 or 3 drag days trying to get to where you could get in 2 or 3 runs with an auto and slicks.

for a one shot wonder.... I recon i could get a stock 25 with a stock turbo (with a couple of big external waste gates) in a well set up 33 to run a 10 sec pass.

around 370-380rwkw, manual, but slicks, drag radials just break shit, youd lose 40rwkw through a auto, so a T67 woudn't

do it auto

Auto youd do it first pass, manual would take at least a few meetings to dial it in no doubt..

cheers

Well having 350, 400rwkws on a dyno machine is very different to actually been able to use them effectively for better speed and time. A power plant is only a thrid of all the necessary work required.

Chatting with people whom actually run 10s in drag days, there is no fluke in it, every thing from engine to drive tran to wheels, and weight has been worked on for the best possibly time.

That Yellow supra in my footage has 1000HP and he run 10.3s with huge cross ply tires. That car has been stripped with only whats required, work done from engine to wheel, it has taken the guy over 3 years to build and with minor configurations done for better results every time it goes to drags.

Its easy enough to say whom ever have done 10s and its easy and every one should be able to do it by bolting on what ever turbo to it. When comes to the drags with 350~400rwkws car, it is only a tinny step towards 10sec.

Artz take my billet T67 that actually made 400rwkws install it and drag it. See for your self what time you can get out of it.

thats exactly the turbo I'm thinking of using stao...that turbo with a rb30 bottom end would be killer..

but firstly I know it wont work atm because my car isnt setup..so power isnt my issue..

What I am looking at is how to setup for grip and ease of the line with the power I currently have...even considering just a built skyline auto as they are relatively inexpensive and fairly tough

4 wheel drive would be a huge advantage.

Mine isn't griping in 1st gear even with M/T, and after few tries it starts to launch on a single wheel. how ever once goes into 2nd it grips fine.

I'm trailing the VNT SS2 now so that billet T67 is just collecting dust, it should drop straight into your turbine housing try it and see what happens. Trent is organising a private drag day at Heathcote when they come back from Chile so we can go there for unlimited runs through the day.

Like everything its a compromise... weighs a lot more. still get plenty of wheel spin if you leave too hard and you'll bog harder if you leave soft. allows traction with harder suspension though.

M/T's will be more sensitive to tyre pressure. and you'll only really get the best out of them with plenty of weight transfer, with the right camber an toe settings under squat. not to mention a better diff arrangement....

it's all about how far you want to compromise the car away from street toward drag.

Like do you actually step it onto preset rev limiter by launch control and give full throttle on launch? Or give gradual throttle to allow torque building up gradually before step in full throttle. its not moving very far on first gear at moment.

You can't just use full throttle in first gear in a RWD with big power.

You need to balance throttle and clutch to get it off the line.

If you want it off the line, abuse the clutch.

are you talking about a 2 step rev limit or launch control? Best to speak with Trent about it.

If Trent has set up a clutch switch, I'd say he has set up launch control with some ign retard to build some boost on a lower rev limit... if that is the case, I'd be standing on it on the line, feed the clutch in and roll off the throttle if you find your blazing the tires to soon.

It really depends of the suspension, power delivery, track, tires, pressures, car weight, clutch, air temp etc....

At moment its seems to be just a 2 step rev limiter that sits on 6000RPMs when clutch is in. He's going to hook up the launch control with ign retard possibly Thursday and trying to launch at 10psi.

f**k the radials of for a start..lol, i can see you forever chasing you ass with those things..and breaking shit..

i'll take a 2WD skyline with slicks any day of the week over a GTR, i think it is much easier to get them to e.t

and hook up with a laggy turbo

cheers

    • Biggest thing is you're okay!   It sounds like between the accident, and the drive home, it was a pretty torturous trip again! On the bright side, you took the opportunity to enjoy the event more from the perspective of a spectator, than as an entrant!   Sad to see so much damage to the car. It really has taken a HUGE hit in the front end. If/when you choose to repair, hopefully the rails are straight (At least from shock tower backwards). Hopefully the extra cage coming through there has save most of the chassis rails, and HOPEFULLY saved the motor too. Best of luck when you eventually get motivated to start pulling it down to check it all out
    • Sounds more like what Brad said, that it's mainly transfer. What pad bed in procedure did you use, and did you replace/machine the rotors, or just swap pads?
    • The stutter is almost entirely in the pedal. I don't feel the brakes release and reapply as you would with ABS engaging but the pedal feels that way, without the brakes releasing. It only lasts for less than a second and the pedal is fine again. It's hard to explain, sorry.  I'll get under this weekend and just double check everything is tight. Fluid is at max where I left it.
    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
