Event:
SAUQLD Dyno Day!

Description:
Its time for the 2013 dyno day, where we can check up on our cars the week before the drag day. The day will be held by Sean at EFI performance which has relocated to Southport, so this will also be a good time for us to get acquainted with their new shop. The day last year was a good event and hopefully we can make this year even better!

You will get 3 power runs on the dyno and a print out. Your entry fee will also cover a BBQ lunch and drinks!

Location:
Unit 3 / 30 Bailey Crescent,Southport.
Approximately a 50minute drive from the Brisbane CBD

Date:
Saturday 22nd of June 2013

Time:
From 8am to 1:30pm

Cost:
$55 for members, $65 for non members. Price includes 3 power runs on the dyno and a sausage sizzle and drinks.

Requirements:
Your car, obviously! It will have to be a 2WD car however. R33-34 GTR owners will need to drop their front drive-shafts out to run in RWD, R32 GTR owners can just pull the fuse.

A disclaimer: A dyno puts a lot more strain on your engine than regular street driving. Sean and his team have years of experience working with performance cars and whilst SAU QLD and EFI will take utmost care with your pride and joy, we do not accept any liability if something was to unfortunately go awry. If you have any concerns or questions about putting your car on the dyno, please contact one of the execs and we can refer them onto Sean at EFI.

So what are possible things that can go wrong and how can they be avoided?

Completely destroy motor, second coming of Christ you know the regular.

[Rant] My dyno figures will be lamer then a sick horse, screw you stall converter!

Either way a dyno is a tuning tool, it's all good to make 11ty killa what's but if your running 13.6 what's the point [/rant]

The main issue is that there is alot more resistance on the driveline than when normally driveing. Think of it as:

normal driving = you running along the road

Dyno pull = you running up a hill with a bungy strap attached to a tree at the bottom

Added strain makes things break easier, but just as in real life the chances that running up that hill will kill you are slim..... Now if Tony or Luke was running up that hill the chances may be different

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
