Yay, nay or gay? I like it, because skylines have better front ends where as supras have better rear ends, so here u get the best of both, would u call it the Skypra or Supraline?

I actually find this thread very surprising.

When I was looking for my second car (still on my P plates) I test drove a N/A R34 and N/A Supra. I ended up going with the N/A Supra because it felt a lot quicker and the dash was a lot more inviting. I love the 34 and Supra looks pretty equally.

I am now a few years on and looking at trading up to a 34 GTR at some point, because the Supra is such a broad minded person to handle in the rain and AWD is rather inviting - but its very surprising to hear a Skyline forum telling people to get a supra. After all, the only comments I've ever got from skyline drivers is "Go f*ck off fishing in your boat"

2JZ is an amazing engine, the V161 and V160 Getrag 6 speeds are amazing. The stock internals don't need to be switched until big numbers. After being in a 600HP GT42R big single supra, its incredible. BUT, the car felt utterly uncontrollable as soon as you came on boost (you are just along for the ride), especially in the rain. After driving my N/A Supra for long enough in the rain, I get the feeling that she actually wants to kill me.

Well put.

I think if you want a car that can make passengers spontaneously shit themselves when you come on boost or like the adrenalin of "superman-ride" acceleration, then you look at the supra.

If you want a good all round bang for your buck sports car which is quite agile and can still be quite powerful as a street car, get the skyline.

If that's not agile enough, look at an evo/sti.

I'm not really mentioning them in the same sentence, unless you favour cornering and absolute agility above all else. I still say pick skyline or supra depending on what you want, unless it's not exactly what either car offers.

The r34 gtr is not in the same league as later model Lancer Evo and WRX Sti's for cornering speed (while obviously still having more in a straight line and power potential). Watch best motoring Tsukuba battles (tight track favouring nimble cars) and the 4 cylinders started beating gtrs from about evo 7 onwards.

Hmmm, Interesting. I don't recall seeing any videos of GTR vs Evo/STI on Tsukuba - I'll have a hunt tonight.

GTR seems to be the nice middle ground between Supra and Evo then :P I personally prefer mountain runs than straight line, and live at the bottom of one with some nice hairpins that I frequent.

if i'm not wrong...there was a clip showing the BNR34 (tsuchiiya) vs Rx7 (orido) in a tight mountain pass kinda terrain and the GTR lost but in the tsukuba circuit...they had BNR34 vs BNR33 vs BNR32 vs STI vs Evo and the R34 came out tops :)

The problem with the touges in Japan is that they are all downhill, so if the cars are lighter and are well sorted rwd they tend to go better because they hardly under steer. But the gtr and other awd cars understeer hence are at a disadvantage but if you throw in some uphills and on the track of course they get slaughtered.

Aristo about as quick as a Supra?

Since when did the Aristo have as much success as the Supra did in JGTC ??? Oh wait it didn't even race in such a series.

And Supra has an amaziiiiiinggg interior, feels like you're in a jet fighter plane. Totally awesome.

"This is a CEFIRO!!!" (Tsuchiya negatively describing the performance of the V35 Skyline)

Come on now, admit it, the aristo was almost as good as the two tone S13 driven by the DK.

Seriously though, the Aristo isnt that much slower (****IN A STRAIGHT LINE****) than the Supra.

If you have high expectations expecting an interior from a jap import who made the interior cheap and tacky on purpose to keep costs low; you're gonna have a bad time. want a fancy interior and lots of space? get a toyota aristo :) same motor as the supra and just about as quick. Honestly you get a stupid amount of car for the price of them.

thanks for everyone help, I actually went a different way and brought a v35.

I'd forgotten that how a highly modified race car performed reflected onto how 2 road going cars compare. Thanks for the reminder.....

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
