I am coming down to the nitty gritty part of this build. I have just about finished the dry sump RB26 oil pan. But, I have a question for all you RB30 guys......

Would it be beneficial in adding the RB26 girdle windage trays to the RB30 girdle? Has anyone done this? Would this be a bad thing or not?. I'm thinking that with the RB26 oil pan bolted to the RB30 block, the windage properties would be nearly the same as the RB26. So I thought about drilling and tapping the RB30 girdle for the trays.

What do you guys think?

Is it as important seing you're running dry sump? Won't be anywhere near as much oil in the sump obviously.

Certainly can't hurt though, might help the oil get back to the pickup point quicker.

Shouldn't be too hard to do. Might just need to drill a few new holes and possibly space the tray to the girdle in a few spots if it doesn't sit flat at the mounting points.

Ive done it on my RB30 girdle, not hard to do, mark the position of the holes, drill and then tap the threads into the girdle, im surprised more people dont take advantage of the wind-age trays.

how is this holding up?

My engine machinist didn't want to do it.

So, I started (front tray on).

Speaking to a colleague who said it can weaken the girdle.

Just after some piece of mind.

Although, it's kind of too late to turn back now.

In my opinion no ways there is enough load put on the girdle to cause any problems. All the linking sections of the girdle does is prevents fore and aft movement. A few 6mm holes are gunna do f'all to affect that.

It ties the bottom end main caps together exactly in the same way as the drilled factory RB26 one does, no weaker, no reported cracks of failures what so ever.

The rails only take fore and aft stress to tie the caps together.

A pic where you can see part of mine done....

    • The light comes on from low oil pressure. Not temp. Did you do a rebuild or just add an ecu etc?  What oil are you using and where are you getting the pressure reading from
    • So like the title says my 97 rs4v has a oil temp sensor but no triple gauges as it was originally factory navigation. My current setup is not using the factory oil pressure sensor as I'm running a link ecu and a real sensor.  I did leave the oil temp sensor in. So now as I was working on first start up and bleeding coolant I get the oil light on the dash faintly as the oil temp gets to about 60-70c. Oil pressure is 45psi at idle at the same time.  I'm wondering if the temp sender doing this?
    • Well it runs again!  This was a definite case of while I have it apart lol Everything except the body and interior has been restored, refinished, or replaced.  @socal_stagea is my IG if you're bored and want to see all the pics.
    • I already got plug and play Link ecu G4X. Main concern is that the de loom works on s1 motor or not? I already rewired injector and coils loom to suit my bosch injectors and bosch vag coil. I’m not running any Iacv. For cas running the nz wiring kit i bought the neo plug one so it suits the wiring but don’t know it works or it doesn’t matter they work the same on every motor. For wastegate solenoid do i need to wire straight from ecu? What can i do for iat sensor to work or same run from ecu? For Vct solenoid, right now i got s1 vct solenoid on motor so do i need to remove neo connector and add s1 connector to work? Any other thing i missed i need to do to make the motor working on de loom. Any different mechanism on neo vs s1?
