A few SA SAU members had a run out there today (Sunday 06Jun04) but unfortunately none of us had the best of meets :(

Thanks to all that came to watch and lend support :)

Poor old Matty (MattR) had a PITA intercooler hose that didn't want to stay on no matter what was tried. In the end he retired. Better luck next time mate.

Chapman (Maxx) debuted the new S15 (no muckin' around there mate :D) with a couple of low 14's @ 102+mph. A best of 14.2 was the end result. It's a good starting point mate.

A lesser known forum member (PSI-VL... I think?) ran 11.3 @ 121+mph? Not a Skyline, but still RB powered.

I had a couple of PB's... 12.357 @ 119.96mph (2.119) was a ET PB, and an earlier pass saw a MPH PB of 120.03mph

I'll run an 11 eventually. I'm getting closer. One tenth at a time :D Yes I know, I suck at burnouts!

it's good to see Matt, MattR & andrew.

matt is car is SO damn nice, the engine bay is so SHINEY, photo don't do the justice.

the only think i can say is - I CAN"T DRIVE!!

everyone come to me and teach me how to launch the car but i am so stupid...

the best mph is 14.22 with 103.69

the BEST 60' is shocking - "2.5"

the car is a lot harder to launch then previous R33. But maybe it's because i haven't used to the car yet.

hopefully i can run a 13 flat or even high 12 like Andrew some day... before i blow the gearbox :D

Congrats on the time Matt. Atleast ur getting better each time u go!!

So pi***d i couldnt make it!!

My car got blocked into the marion carpark at 11.30 last night!!! Cops didnt leave till 2 am and approx 30 defects later!!!! (They were all comodores though) I was smart enough to leave my car and hide in the plex for 2 hours, so i didnt get done over.

Hopefully next time im more organised and ill make it out!

Don't be too hard on yourself Chappy, it was your first time out in a new car. To run 14.22 at nearly 104mph, with a 'less than perfect launch', shows the car has plenty of potential. Thanks for the photo too mate :D

Thanks Andy/Mark :D Sounds like a close call Mark!

Thanks guys :(

Yeah Robo the top end is fairly solid. I can usually miss a gear or totally stuff the launch (wasting a second or so) and if I keep on it for the rest of run I can chase down a 13-14sec car.

My total lack of a decent burnout saw the Nittos spin in 3rd and 4th on one pass.

A couple of fellow work mates of mine were out at AIR on the June 6th meet and one of them (Adam) took a heap of photos for me! They're bloody excellent 'cause they're from angles I've never got to see before!

Check out the wheel spin marks that my tyres have left on this less than perfect launch:

I didn't think my car lifted up the front end this much either.

No mate, the 540's are still alive and kicking... on the back of Steve's beast :D

My new everyday (& strip) rubber is 275/40/17 Extreme Drag NT555R Nittos. I've had them for a few months almost. They're much better for straight line traction on the street than the 540's. Even around corners they perform better than 'normal' performance road rubber, due to the soft compound.

My total lack of a decent burnout saw the Nittos spin in 3rd and 4th on one pass.

Woeful. Dude, 2nd gear 6krpm, drop clutch, on brakes just enough for it to not roll forward.... You'll be right.

1.6 on the exact same tyres is possible. I personally guarantee it.

Adrian

damm, intercooler pipe:( fixed now and ready for the next wednesday night meeting. my best (if you can call it that) time for the day was 14.020 at 103.65mph. 60ft was a poor 2.8. have to get used to the nittos

Well done Matt and Chapman

Congratulations Matt, glad to see you are getting quicker every time you go out, won't be too long before you get an 11 sec pass.

I had to post this pic, as I actually saw some smoke coming off your tyes :bs!: and didn't think anyone would believe you ....sorry couldn't resist

Mark

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
