Hey guys just looking for some advice from you guys who have more experience in these vehicles than I do.

I have a budget of about 4k to spend on my vehicle but want to spend it wisely and with the most reputable people as in workshops, tuners etc.

Car is: r34 gtt sedan manual

3"exhaust turbo to rear

Rfmic

Bc coilovers

Split fires

About to install walbro pump

K&n panel filter

Any help, links or suggested contacts would be awesome. Don't know if to get nistune board or power fc.

Regards,

Rob

For a $4000 budget and your current mods, I'd be getting an ECU, Highflow R34 Turbo, Z32 Air Flow Meter and a Tune should bring you to about 250-260rwkw.

ECU and Tune only will be about $900 - $1000 and you might get 180-190rwkw or so?

Remember that you'll need the Plug for the Z32 as well, so it can wire straight up.

I've got a 33 and put an R34 Highflow Turbo on it... If you send off your current turbo to Stao from Hypergear he can highflow it for you, changes all the internals of it to steel wheels etc which can support a lot more boost than the standard one, and machines out the housing so it flows a lot more air.

I run a PowerFC with a hand controller, cost me about $1k, plus $500 or so for the initial base tune then a power tune... retunes afterwards are charged per hour.. so only end up being $150-200 or so for little changes.
Nistune is a daughterboard which connects into your existing ECU, its cheaper and retains the standard ecu which is good in some ways... as mentioned above, you can get one supplied, fitted and tuned for under a grand.

Chequered Tuning - 110%

How often/much do you drive your car.

I'd seriously consider getting a Hypergear turbo as well.

As for ECU's, i think Trent would pick the Nistune over the FC for a GT-T - but i'd be seriously looking at the offerings from Link/Vipec/Haltech as well. Not up-to-date about who offers what for the GT-T. Best to check this with Trent.

If you went with a newer ECU, you'd be running MAP sensor, so don't need a Z32 - but will if running Nistune and a bigger turbo.

Add some whiteline adjustable swaybars into your budget as well.

You'll need some injectors too. What Walbro you get?

Trent and Cat run Chequered Tuning, they're damn good at what they do. They're located in Keysborough and really know their stuff. Sometimes their a little hard to get a hold of, but leave a message with Cat and she'll get back to you.

Best to talk to Trent first about your budget and goals, I'd hold off on getting that Z32 for now, SS8_Gohan is right, you might be better off running a MAP (Mass Air Pressure) sensor instead of a MAF (Mass Air Flow)

May b on the weekends so prob lucky to do half a tank of fuel a month may be a bit more in summer

good answer

E85 time!! :D

You could go flex fuel for not much more, would fit in your budget. Or just full time E85 considering how much you drive it.

Madness not too.

Trent's the best to go to see for tuning... anything, unless it's a wolf :D

Go to unitedpetroleum.com.au or unitedpetrol.com.au - search for just 'E85' and see how the locations of those servos work for you.

    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.
    • Stop looking at the garage floor, and turn the radio up a bit louder if there's any strange noises...
    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
