For larger turbos they make more difference than smaller IMO. I doubt you could even tell.

Just like anything, work out what you want from a particular setup, and then research.

And do it once, do it right. Much cheaper in the long run ;)

Well the highflow 34 turbo will do exactly what I want, the only difference is I have a place that will do it with ball bearings for $1350 or one from Hypergear with a thrust bearing for $860.

thrust bearing is poor in comparison to ball bearings you want to know why?????

not just because ball bearing actually spool faster than journal bearings................

but....................

because......................

it reduces the oil flow required for lubraction and it increases the longevity / durability of the turbo compared to journal bearings

Might as well have gone a gt2867 brand new if you pay that much + cost of 34 turbo

A good hi flow option from hypergear that will bolt to stock manifold and dump can make more power than a gt28

This is what I was thinking, I can get a 34 turbo and highflow it for about $1000.

+1 the small frame garrets are a pain in the ass to bolt up to an Rb and they probably have no more power potential. High flows are pretty under rated

Clint was running a ss1pu early model and made around 350hp from memory on pump98 fuel.. Hi flowed r34 turbo + e85 should see easy power with stock response. I'm my opinion it would make a perfect street daily.

remove and purchase -9 Pete or T51r or both lol

But effort.

Are they a direct fit to the stock manifold and dump Pete?

I thought so?

Again, i was comparing a hihg flowed ball baring turbo to it, not a hypergear journal bearing one.

More making a point at what you're paying for if you go for a brand new one.

Our "Journal bearing one", is more responsive then your ball bearing one, and last 10x longer.

Yeah I agree Pete, I'm very much leaving towards the hypergear. I want to get an ecu and injectors capable of running e85 but running and running in pump 98 until I either get a second car or have e85 scalable locally.

nah man. Clint was actually making 400hp at the treads

    • You now say stumble, but you said cut out before. Will it slow rev through the cut/stumble? What gap were your spark plugs set to when you them in?
    • I had double clamped all the pipes but I checked them over any way, everything tight and secure. feels and sounds like a electrical short/failure, as it is an abrupt and aggressive stumble, that instantly comes and goes right at 4k mark...like clock work fuel pump and filter are new new coils and plugs injectors where cleaned and tested 200 miles plus ago no black smoke cleaned MAF   same results, other ideas? some other sensor?
    • Yes, just without the annoying use of the word hybrid. We stopped using that term 20 years ago when we realised it meant different things to different people. Even "highflow" can represent more than one way of achieving the goal of getting more flow out of a turbo. But at least it says what it does on the box.
    • OH, when they say "solid buckets", I always interpeted that as "shimless". (Which is not the same as the "shimness word I invented above to represent the same idea that the buckets act as shims also!!). Still the same problem though. So it appears that buying a "kit" from Tomei is a two step process. Makes sense. Doesn't make sense in the context of a "kit" though.
