Hey guys

Recently had my engine rebuilt by one workshop that shall remain unnamed.

The worn in period for the motor is pretty much over and need to go back for a service and new ecu and tune.

However i feel the boys at Racepace will do a better job tuning it.

Is this situation uncommon? I only ask because the builder gave me a years warranty on the motor and i would like to keep it.

so i suppose the real question is, should the builder honor the warranty even though ill get the tune from somewhere else?

I had asked this question and got a "if it gets tuned by A, B, or C I'll honor it" - So it's worth asking. I asked only due to time constraints in my example.

Alternatively, get it tuned by the builder then see another tuner. It does make a fair amount of sense to let the guy who built it tune it, especially if they are going to warranty the end result. I'd rather take a warranty over ~10kw :P

In the unlikely circumstance that something goes wrong :

Engine Builder will blame tuner => Tuner will blame engine builder.. and in the end your the one with your hands in your pockets.

Get the run in done, do an initial tune at the workshop that built it and enjoy the thing for at least a couple of months. Id rather have it tuned running richer and safer than going balls out on a freshly built motor. After a couple of months if your getting sick of it go to Racepace, whack some timing and boost in it and see how you go

As someone above said, Most engine builders will have a preferred tuner if they don't do tuning themselves. I know my personal mechanic is a big fan of the bloke at LSX tune, But he also has a couple of others he trusts. Best bet is to have an in depth conversation with the engine builder and see what they say about it.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
