havnt cleaned the airflow meter.

when i did the spark plugs all the electrical plugs seemed fine, what exactly should i be looking for tho? and what is AFM?

Changed the fuel filter, and cleaned my air filter but ill buy a new one 2moz.

I didnt reset the ecu after doing the new spark plugs, but did it before hand to hope it fixed it before doing the spark plugs and also took it for a spirited drive.

Just to make sure, to reset the ecu, you unplug the - terminal off the battery, press the brake a few times and turn lights on for a few minutes, then wait 30mins and reconnect. correct?

hmmm...

AFM is Airflow meter. CAS is Crank angle sensor.

Reseting the ECU should only need, disconnect, pump the brake for 30secs, reconnect but you can leave for longer or overnite etc if you wish.

Just check for dirty or bent contacts etc...

even try jiggling wiring while it's running too.

Try diconnecting each coil 1 by 1 and see if it stops it. It will only be running on 5 cylinders at a time but if one of your coils is goosed the chugging shouldn't happen when disconnected.

haha i feel so dumb bout asking the AFM now, i should have put 2 together LOL!

ok well ill look on the forum on how to find and clean the AFM and CAS, and tomorrow ill reset the ecu and put in a new air filter, ill make sure the tyre's are straight because i've been warned about the HICAS.

Just curious to why resetting the ECU would fix this, and should i do that everytime i fit parts?

ECU reset can be a good thing with new mods but isn't really necessary and can fix things (sometimes).

Example... In my 94 Bluebird, it had a weird thing going on which I was told by a mechanic was my injectors packing in.

I had it to a different mechanic who diagnosed and fixed a leaking intake gasket but the weird lumpiness was still there.

I Reset the ECU and suddenly the weird lumpiness was gone.

CAS I would unplug and clean the contacts but don't unbolt or remove it unless you have a timing light and know how to use it. :P

no timing light so ill just clean the contacts, ive looked around this forum and google, but i dont know where the CAS :( im planning to go down and get some Contact cleaner tomoz and clean the AFM + New air filter so hope it helps cause im running low on $$$

to get to the coil packs in a rb25de, i have to remove the intake manifold as stated in the link below, unless your talking about a different way :S

wasnt too bad, but if i was to do that, id have to unplug a coil, put it back together and do that for each coil, its alot of work, but as we speak, im cleaning the AFM as it was filthy! really filthy! and changing oil, plus ill add more fuel and octane booster and injector cleaner through

Hell yeah, sounding so much better now :D so far on the car i have changed the oil, cleaned inside the filter box (fair few leaves and foam from off the air intake, was so surprised), new air filter, cleaned the AFM which was bloody filthy, added extra fuel with octane booster and injector cleaner, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, new battery.

So tomorrow ill be taking it to the servo and full tanking it. its currently on 3 quarters and a half. but hoping that little bit more fuel, makes the chugging disappear completely,

If it all works well and the car is fixed, ill be making a donation to SAU, as every detail that came from this site was so helpful! i applaud you all!! :cheers::thanks::thumbsup:

Good to hear the AFM clean helped!

Should also point out - 34 GT's ad GT-T's DO NOT like any form of modifications on factory ECU's - they'll retard the timing and run fat as soon as they detect any increase in airflow.

Other than this, splitfire are a damn good way to go regarding coils - spend the money and get the good stuff, you won't be sorry.

    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
