i suppose we tend to forget that in japan the skyline is just another car among many others for people to choose. thats why there are so many r32 and r33's coming into aus because of the amount of them on the road. I think i read somewhere that in the first month that the V35 was on sale in japan they moved about 6500 vehicles if you look at that compared to how many lancers are sold in a month over here i am sure that will provide an interesting comparison. :P

correct me if im wrong... but aint jap cars only allowed to come out with no more then 280hp? if so....
Yeah, you're wrong... it USED to be 280ps. But that whole egntleman agreement between manufacturers about maximum power went out with the 20th century...
hey rezz are you trying to beat evo lee to post because he keeps beating you at pool??
Hahahaha... VERY funny

Troy is the original die-cast moulding of the ultimate jaggy bastard... :P

Without Mivec it is already the most highly powered 2L engine but I will have to see what the actual power figures of the new EJ20T on a dyno.  With a mild dose of Mivec it will get 350ps from the crank easy but that means they have done nothing much to the engine :P, I just hope it will be as light as the MR.

Isn't it 4G63T?

The design looks a tad wierd imo, but I guess it'll grow on me as did the 350Z

Yes always a 4G63 :P

Even without any form of MIVEC she still has plenty more in her.

That photos is probably just some normal 4cyc Mivec in the normal Lancer.

As for the gentlemen's agreement I thought we all know that was thrown out the window ages ago...makers just state that to keep the Govt happy.

What's the point with the EVO, it just looks like a riced up Lancer to the average joe. How much were they, like 70k or something? ridiculous. Small, ugly and overpriced. Might go fast but so what? It's about as appealing as a high performance Hyundai Excel.

Sorry EVO owners, but for that money Mitsubishi really should give it it's own body and model look, not that of a mass produced budget car runabout.

Bloody hell, EVERYBODY thats had a ride in Evo_Lee's Evo 5 walks away highly impressed (Troy - really they do!)...

You been in one/driven one before mate? I've said it before, Mitsubishi Evo's are the *only* other car I'd think about owning other than a Skyline.

i like the 04 WRX STi much better, looks so much better..... but nothin beats the look of a tank GTR

Plus there is all the cooking model cars we don't get here (like a RB20E in a R33 2door...how many people here bother importing them?)

I like the look of the specs for the Evo X, the car though... yuck...designed by the guy who was recently sacked? (and responsible for such ugly things as the current Magna, that Colt thing, cooking model Lancers(agreed, the Evo 8 wasn't too bad))

The STi package is great but the styling leaves alot to be desired...again Aust gets alot of WRXs and STi...you don't see many around here definitely not in my neck of the woods. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If you have time search for the Super Taikyu Series and you will see alot of nice racing Evos and the most...2 STi in the whole field...then you will see which is better looking even in race trim.

Ofcourse the skyline was mass produced evo_lee... what car that u can buy isnt..

But u count the number of lancers that go past on a busy street compared to the number of GTRs or even GTSt skylines. :)

And we are talking australia here, it is skylines australia :)

My against for the EVO is simply the fact it looks too similar to a normal lancer, which in no way is a performance car anyway. So u cant say the GTR is just a riced up gtst. The entire range of skylines is performance bred, but lancers;

One side is cheap cars to be mass produced, the other peformance.

And brand new they are fairly expensive.

I beleive for a car to be truely unique, it needs the whole package.. Looks, power, handling, agressive, price, attractive etc etc

Other than that tho, the EVOs are fast!

I don't necessarily agree - Lancers are by and large, shitty cheaply made economy boxes for univerisity students and middle aged women... oh and ricers :)

But Evolutions have a strong racing heritage easily comparable to GT-R's. I wouldn't be spending $75,000 on an EVO but to the people that matter, the EVO will always stand way above a 'normal' Lancer.

T.

The entire range of skylines is performance bred

entire range??

read up on motorsport history(pre-WRC) and you'll know why the Evolution had to be based on a "mass production" car.

that goes for the GT-R too.....

funny how no one is comparing the WRC Focus rally car to their road-going versions...

Looks like everyones has jumped in and answered before I could finish my post...

First you said the Lancer is mass produced and now you tell me you agree the Skyline is too...so what is your point again.

But u count the number of lancers that go past on a busy street compared to the number of GTRs or even GTSt skylines. :)

You just keep counting your Lancers and I will keep counting the Skylines...again what is your point. You can even count GT-Rs and I will count how many Evos there are.

I wonder who told you the Lancer was a performance car, did the little ricer lancer boy tell you that and you believed him. Why would a normal car need to cost that much if it was the 4G93 GSR then you'll find they are in a similar price markup. What's interesting is how you find every Skyline is performance bred...seriously I wonder where you get your information! Because of the GT-R or because they also come with a Turbo engine...alot of cars come with different engines doesn't make them performance bred.

The GT-R and the Evo are completely different to their family model line up. Both were purposely built for competition. I'd even say the difference is greater between the Evo and Lancers today then the GT-R and Skylines.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
