Hi Guys,

I have a set of bc coilovers i installed at peddars atm the rears are a little too low, getting sick of scraping over speed bumps (dont even know why some of them are so big!) anyways i wanted to diy and raise the rears however its not a true coilover for these rear v35 coupe where strut and spring is positioned seperately.... could someone please guide me on how i would be able to raise the rears i have done research and it gets a hell of alot more confusing as i am supoosed ot match the strut with the spring? my thoughts are i juts need to adjust the strut bar up and down and that will raise and lower it? please help as i would really like to raise the car but also dont want to spend money taking it to peddars....

Almost all adjustable setups for V35 have a bottom mount that the spring sits on, and this can screw up and down to adjust the height. So you need to remove the rear springs completely (very easy job), pull out the bottom spring mount, screw it up in height and put it back together.

Tip: unbolt the actual part of the car at one end that the spring sits in - one side will fall downwards, making the spring easily accessible/removable.

You can't move the strut body up or down. Whatever height you set the springs at in their spring mount is the amount the strut will be extended. It goes in and out of the piston at whatever height the springs are set. It does not actually carry any weight - the springs do.

I believe the height is set by the strut and you set the pre load of the spring to match the height.

If you raise the strut by 40mm of thread (by turning anticlockwise), raise the spring by the same amount (40mm). This will maintain the preload that has been set which if its the same as the front it should be 4mm (thickness of the spanner). The preload keeps the springs captive at full droop...

Someone correct me if im wrong.

Might be so depending on the brand/model, but the set that I had (similar to the Megan Racing ones in the pic) had damper adjustment, but from memory could not be adjusted height-wise.

hey guys yes thats correct i can move my strur body as well i think i may have made a mistake before cause i took it to a mechanic whom just moved the strut body up about 10-15mm hoqwever didnt touch the spring mount to match the strut at all will this do any damage? i hope i can get someone to help- out and make it easier for me to do it is confusing as i havent much knowledge on thes ebut willing to learn.... also with the spring mounts do they sit on the top of the spring or below? as i think i have mine up at the top also took the bump stop out before to make it lower...

J, sounds like the mechanic is a bit of a dope.
It won't have done any damage; it just changes the stroke of the shock. I'm assuming you paid him, why not get him to do what you asked?

They are at the top, but my concern is this; If you don't know what to adjust, it may be better, and much safer, to leave it to someone with more experience?

Get the car up on some stands so you can look at the job; then decide whether you are confident.

It's not difficult, but you will need to take some accurate measurements to ensure you get it right.

On top of this; a decent height change WILL alter the toe setting, so I'd advise at least getting the alignment checked. It might be easier to just let Pedders do it.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
