plumb the wastegate back into the exhaust and it will be quiet again, are you running a stock turbo cause it sounds like it..

Not stock turbo, pretty sure it's a ebay turbo (Was there when i bought the car). [i'm aware the oil feed line isn't the best and i'm ordering braided hose for anyone about to comment on it]105y99l.jpg

I've done some research and some people use moto exhaust silencers plumbed to external to quiet it down, anyone done this? also can i change the way the gate opens? i'd prefer it at higher rpms oposed to when im just trying to overtake people.

someone shoot me. please.

Hey man, you had to learn at some point too. I know alot about n/a engines but i'm fairly new to turbo's although i'm getting there. Why do skyline drivers always condescend on people :\

Don't worry about those people. Majority of them are kids sitting behind a computer ragging on others ignorance to make themselves feel like their dick is bigger. Learning takes asking questions.

I'm gonna guess that silencer you're referring to would kinda work. It's called a SuperTrapp. Good mufflers and tunable depending on how many rings you run. Seems like a lot of trouble and not a whole lot of room to do so. Google SuperTrapp and look for the dimensions. Measure it out. Before you start playing with spring rates in your waste gate, probably want to look at howstuffworks.com and search turbo. It will help you understand majority of the basics and some advance calcs on forced induction.

But when it comes down to it and a lot of others are explaining to ya....plumb it back into your down pipe. I'm sure any muffler shop can help.

Thanks man, i appreciate the helpful post. I think plumbing back to downpipe may be the best option, what is the horsepower difference? I started around 320hp and it feels like i've lost about 50 hp with the gates current setup, will downpipe plumbing effect performance oposed to exhaust vent to atmo?

Have you tuned it yet since installing the external?

Not yet, i have a microtec lt-12 ecu but don't have the plug play cables yet to edit setups.

Also noticed you're say hp instead of kW. You must live in n. America.

I was originally living in canada but i'm living in perth now.

Doing a waste gate upgrade like that requires tuning. You went from whatever internal which is normally 5-7psi (unless you have a boost controller) to whatever you received the waste gate as from manufacture. Externals are much more adjustable and tunable. That's why an external waste gate was engineered for, to gain more options for tuning. A lot of people don't realize how much that spring inside can alter your turbos personality. You really need to get the car professionally tuned if not done yet.

One of the reasons i haven't dumped the car on a shop yet is a pride thing, when i got the car i had to do alot of work replacing hoses and rerouting things properly (there was no nipple for boost on turbo or in piping) causing it to boost cut really bad. You can see in above pic that my oil feed is pretty sad, needs a 90 degree fitting and braided hoses to avoid kinks/melting. Couple hoses had some shocking frays and was dripping little bits of oil. So i'm making sure that everything is in good nick and wont be an issure before milking power out of it.

Another reason would be the cost, i simply don't have 1 grand to drop into tuning right now and am saving my pennies until i can get there, until then i'll be working on it the best i can learning as i go.

(pic is oil return line from turbo, one of the many pipes i've been replacing with proper silicone heat resistant pipes).

lol....typical noob comment...

lets put it this way...muppet removes exhaust pipe at engine...then complains engine is too loud...and we are meant to take him seriously....?

i didn't remove shit, i'm dealing with what i got. You have a high post count for someone that spits usless info, why don't you put it on your resume and see how far your condisending attitude gets you in life.

Yo people,

My problem is that my R33 gts is way to loud after hooking my external wastegate up. My skyline has a straight through exhaust which is loud itself, but not overly loud. When i hooked the waste gate up it made such a noise that it pissed off anyone within a mile of me,

well thats not what you told us is it?

well thats not what you told us is it?

At what point did i remove anything? wastegate was already hooked up to exhaust manifold, just didn't have the nipple on the pipe from the cold side of turbo routed to the wastegate to add pressure to open it, meaning it was boosting uncontrollibly and fuel cutting/backfireing when it overboosted. Hence the need for the wastegate to be hooked up so it can releive pressure, yet i'm discussing ways to silcence the wastegate noise as it's obviously noticable as external atmo gates are. You can add your opinion about the car, not about people in the thread because who the f**k cares about that.

    • From the factory on RB26s there's a fitting on the intake manifold collector/"plenum" that provides pre-throttle boost signal. That's how they did it back in the day, I figure it's fine to replicate it.
    • I would be surprised if that wasn't the issue. It's probably telling you, that even if you remove the plastic liner, you may have some other clearance issues that may occur too in some scenarios. IE, tyre to guard. It looks like someone has already rolled the lip, but you may still have issues in the future IE, turning and hitting a bump etc. The fact it changes how bad it makes the noise when you are going backward vs forward is highly indicative that it's the tyre rubbing. They do make a terrible sound, even if you're only pushing a project car that has a liner hanging down on a tyre!   Has the car been lowered? If it has been, what is the measurement from the centre of the wheel hub to the lip of the guard straight up?
