Ryan1200
God the frustration involved with trying to get just my setup working Mv aut0matics were a complete nightmare to deal with it started out 1-2 months that turned in 6 months then had to be sent back more that once, box in and out several times the torque converter didn't get balanced at all after they had a go at restalling it eg massive vibration through the car the excuses just kept rolling on and on I ended up getting the box checked out locally we found worn out old bits they had used it turned into a very stressful exercise. We did consider trying to make a kit but after all that bad luck we kinda gave up. If the RIPS was available when I started the build I would have went that way for sure its a much nicer combination that sits flat and comes with all the heavy duty hardware. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/437304-auto-transmission-for-gtr-to-hold-1000hpoptions/page/3/#findComment-7470499 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
Add to that 5k for the box these parts that you will require also. Custom length and spline output shaft to suit transfercase. Fabricated sump to clear the drive shaft when the box is massively rotated Suitable length and angle pick tube to put the oil filter at the bottom of the new fabricated sump. The dip stick takes some messing around to get it at a suitable height for when the gearbox is rotated. Decent torque converter can be $1000-2000. Shifter Transcooler ect ect Pretty quickly it gets to 10-12K. Yep 100% - I was just talking the box itself. Nothing else. The whole adventure is big dollars end to end Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/437304-auto-transmission-for-gtr-to-hold-1000hpoptions/page/3/#findComment-7470521 Share on other sites

ido09s
A bit of a thread bump but are there any recommendations for a 2WD car that will cope with about 600rwkw? been toying with the idea of putting an auto in the S14 (its RB26) and have no idea what the best option is. I am sure TH400 and a glide will cope once built but what is the better option performance wise? scotty nm35
The patrol/300zx RE4 can be built to handle around that, and it should bolt straight up using the auto rb bellhousing. If you end up heading that way, check out the PCS programmable controller, best thing you could do for a built auto, shits all over manualised boxes. GTRPSI
I thought a built RE4 shits itself around 400Kw+ from memory. (last looked into it 2 years ago) 2 speed glide, or 3 speed t400, really depends on your power band and slip, 2 speed or 3 speed to get you down the track quicker, 2 speed will rob a lot of power and turn it into heat. ido09s
Thanks guys. the price is going to rule it out. The car has run 11.0 and 138mph and we don't want to cage it or put a chute on it as its a street car so the price is just too much for what I wanted it for. Which is only a handful of passes probably. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but I wasn't expecting $5k or so for a box then convertor and accessories I think I am just going to have to put some slicks on it and see how it goes to the 60 foot markers Edited May 1, 2015 by ido09s Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/437304-auto-transmission-for-gtr-to-hold-1000hpoptions/page/3/#findComment-7526347 Share on other sites
Mitchee
Sounds exactly like my situation with my GTT at the moment. Cant justify $5k for a box then all the additions on top. I've gone 11.0 @ 137 and 11.3@147 through the stock 5 speed. Id go slicks but worried about breaking things.
