I haven't seen anything here about the Link Display unit. I have just bought one and will give a little report when I have had a chance to have a play with it but I just want to give a heads up for anyone considering buying one that they can be had at a good price here:

Link do not approve of their dealers discounting but I think this is a dealer unloading some excess stock. I paid NZ$720 for mine (they are usually over $1000) and there are 2 or three more for sale. They will fit Link or Vipec ecus.

Pretty good price.

What would be the benefit of using that over a Windows Tablet to do the same job?

Not sure - I am not particularly computer literate and I don't have a lap top or a tablet and Link Display just plugs in and away you go. It has mounting facility on the back and I plan to use it to reduce the number of gauges I have ( as well as for logging afrs and injector flows etc). Will put up a few pics when I have time.

You probably find that the supplier is thinning down his stock now that Link/ViPec are offering the Race Technology Dash 2 as a direct plug in for their ECU's, I get the feeling they will stop making the Display Link at some stage.

Possibly but that dash will probably be at least $500 more!

Link are dropping that display unit as it didnt do very well at all.

They have now teamed up with an Australian dash company. Similar dash to a racepak etc.

Race Technology Dash 2 is a UK made item. Nothing wrong with the Link unit apart from the price so I am happy with my discounted one. The Race Technology Dash is more suited for track cars and is already used with the Link in the NZ Supertourers.

since Link is supposed to be compatible with the other brands of display...maybe u can consider others? like motec's? :D

btw...anyone knows if motec's SLM is compatible with the Link G4+ or Vipec?

It looks like the new Link+ & Vipec 'i' series have OBD2 capabilities.

I'm not 100% if this trickles down to the plugin units, but reading the Link page it looks that way.

Opens up the possibilities of using common place OBD2 data display units :)

Pretty sure I just said that one post above :~

I spoke to the Motec guys at WTAC in Sydney not long ago, they said it was.

I'm running a Racepak IQ3 with my ViPec.......but with the amount of shagging around I had to do to make it work, I would recommend just getting a Race Tech Dash 2 as it is just plug and play.

not just simple CAN bus connection?

for the SLM... motec controls it via software with table... does the vipec software have this?

Yes the LEDs on my Display Link can be programmed for a shift light so the Link/Vipec software does have that capability.

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
