Can Someone Tow A Car From Newcastle To Vic Border For Me

Recommended Posts

hey sauers im looking at buying a skyline from newcastle few problems the owner of the car has had the number plates confiscated for 3 months due to the hoon laws up there and im wanting to buy it either next week or the week after the cars rego expired yesterday and from what the RTA told me is that im not able to get a nsw permit to drive it back here does anyone know if ill have any issues registering here in melbourne and also if someone could possibly tow the car from newcastle to the border of nsw/vic its not very low and has great groud clearance and help would be fantastic

Why not just hire a trailer from a servo in VIC, near the border if you really want to save on some fuel... Then road trip to Newcastle to pick up the car with some mates... drop the trailer off on your way back and drive it home once you get to VIC...

Or hire the trailer from Melb, and trailer it back the entire way... Would be cheaper than paying someone else to do 2/3 of the km's for you...

24 hr trailer hire..120$. 24 hour car hire..120$. Fuel 2 tanks maybe 3..200$...so for 450-500 you have it at your door....would be a f**kload easier to put it on a truck..might even be cheaper

600 to Melbourne or Albury?

Coz its gumna cost you 150+ in fuel to get to Albury and back to pick it up...plus the covernote to drive it..so that's over 200...plus 350...getting damn near 600 anyway...

flying up $54 cant get a nsw cover note on it as the number plates were confiscated due to hoon laws. only need it towed from newcastle to albury then ill drive it over the nsw/vic border n drive it home with a vic permit. guy is even filling the tank up and giving me 100 litres of eflex fuel so wont cost me anything to drive it home :)

So much f**king around to avoid the $500-600 a pro transport place would charge. It'll likely cost you that plus your time and effort...

one of the guys that picked up a crown recently from VIC had a VIC permit and drove it all the way to SA
maybe you could ring Vicroads and inquire if they would allow you to drive it all the way back?

I know you tried NSW, but the car is coming back here anyway

Or just do it anyway and plead ignorance IF you get pulled over in nsw...

Though, if its got no plates on it, you probably will get pulled over if going on a 1000km trip...

You say that you can't get an unrego permit because the plates were confiscated for hooning... I understand why they'd say no to this, but surely that should just apply to the previous owner of the car? Call up RTA and explain that you're purchasing a car and it is currently unregistered and you want to be able to drive it back to VIC, they may grant you the permit since you're not linked in any way to the person who was hooning...

ive called rta they said the vechile has been suspended off the roads for 3 months and if anyone is driving it regardless of interstate permit or not the car will be confiscated. not to mention if its recorded on the national database ill have to wait 3 months before i can register it here lol which is fine with me

i put no fee on my time and effort i always help other people out & it gives me something fun to do who doesnt love a road trip LOL

ive applied to a lawyer to have the vechile removed on confiscation list early so the seller can sell the vehicle and have money for any court costs and fines hopefully this can be presented to a judge asap and get granted

yeah im happy todo that just waiting on a few more quotes to come back car transport trucks are a lil difficult seem to want me to book a few days in advance then what wait at the guys house with the money and pay him when its on the truck lol worse case scenario gonna tow it

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
