Units like this need to mounted on the windscreen - not a big deal these days with every other vehicle having mobile phone and/or GPS units mounted there aswell. There are more advanced ones that use sensors on the dash/back window/front grill, but the unit hides away.

You can modify a radar detector to become a detector-detector - this is what the police use and it provides a signal direction too. Most decent units have a shut-off that once it acknowledges that it is being tracked, it will stop detecting to avoid being identified. This obviously only works if there are other cars around. If you're by yourself, it won't matter.

It will pick up mobile radar no problem as they tend to operate continuously and as someone said, the signals bounce off anything/everything. Speed cameras are a strange one - some operate continuously (easy detection), some operate sporadically so you might think its a false signal and ignore the alarm (shopfront motion sensors for automatic sliding doors can set some models off). Lasers are difficult - they hardly reflect off other vehicles, and if it gets pointed at you, you'll be warned as your speed is recorded.

This is all just general knowledge to answer some questions, not specific to the model being sold here.

Just curious, would radar detectors detect Highway Patrol cars jsut driving around?

Reason I ask is that I've been told some HWP cars have radars in their car to detect speed and is mroe or less constantly switched on. Any truth in that?

After all of this talk ,are these things any good?

Or, if caught you are in more trouble than just the speeding ticket????

Is there a product out there that gives us a fighting chance if we slip over the limit, without being fined for having a radar detector in our car.

If they have to put up signs saying there is a radar speed detector up ahead , why are we not allowed to have something to detect them ??????

Before you shoot me down, "do not speed" and then "no problem" shit it is hard to stay within a 5k limit with a modern car where 1 or 2MM on the peddle is about 5 kph :w00t:

I have done lots of dumb driving over my life in cars that should not have been on the road and today would be scrapped , F, cable brakes were fun :w00t: the car could go twice as fast than it could stop :stupid:

I do 3500kms per week, I use one and cannot recommend them highly enough, yes they will go off at certain business/servos. yes the police with a handheld need to be locked onto your car for it 2 pickup laser alert, yes it will pickup highway patrol cars with there radar turned on before u see them and yes it will pickup flash for cashes parked on side of road. good luck with sale, good price :)

i just got a speeding fine, he said his laser showed i was speeding, so my question is does this unit tell me if a cop has a radar with a laser before i get in range of it?

Uhh, no.. by definition if you're not "in range" then how is the detector supposed to detect the radar or laser signal? a signal has to actually been seen by the device to be detected. with the laser speed measuring devices cops use today, you will have only ~1 to 2 seconds to drop your speed if you're speeding before they lock in the detected speed, in other words not enough time. Another approach would be to attempt to "jam" the signal by diffusing the laser with noise on the same wavelength buying you another 4-5 seconds to slow down... but not all of these have success in actually working as advertised, and are also illegal. Also note that most detectors are easily detected by police scanners because they emit a signal which can be identified - the only one i know of that claims is not detectable is the Bell XR/STi.

    • Order for the 2025 model R35 GT-R were accepted from 3rd March and 26th August the last order rolled off the production line at the Tochigi plant. Concerning the R35 GT-R replacement, current Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said "Nothing has been decided about the GT-R at this time, but we are well aware that everyone is waiting. The GT-R will evolve and reappear in the future. Please be patient until that day comes." Nissan has a lot of issues with management and finances so take Espinosa's words with a big grain of salt. From what discussions I've had and read about here in Japan, not a lot of people are confident about Nissan's future, let alone the next GT-R.
    • Thanks. We getting some parts along too so he will be solving the speed issue like next week so i will let you know what he came up with.
    • 21 is explicitly the coils detected as the issue. Is it guaranteed the actual issue? No. Just the ECU thinks it is. When you say rattling, describe it better, get an audio clip as best you can if possible.
    • Yea got me coppers. Bad news is I just put them in and the car still has the light and shakes. I also noticed I hear like rattling coming from the exhaust piping right under me. Does 21 also have a possibility of being O2 sensors?   So, coil packs are good, the harness is good, the MAF is working, and obviously the spark plugs just replaced and working.
    • Make sure you drop the GTT base tune back in, and set your injectors again, this will remove anything playing up with it you may have removed. Possibly lean there as it's normally a fast transient going THROUGH atmospheric pressure, and a turbo motor would then quickly go richer as boost builds. The only worry you MIGHT have is ignition timing, as the DE is higher compression than the DET from memory. But again, you're not in boost, so the DE motor will be a lot more forgiving at atmospheric.   Get Murray, Kinkstahs, and Johnny's input on tuning haltechs, those guys have played with tuning enough in the past to be able to help now you're past the trouble shooting stage of the MAP issue
