So who Melb is running a Power FC on their R33 GTST. I would if possible like to borrow one for 5 minutes to compare the plugs, and if the plugs are the same, borrow it for 30 minutes to plug it into my R32 GTST (RB20DET)...and see if she cranks over.

Ill post here for all to see, that if ANY damage is sustained by the Power FC i will replace in full with a NEW Apexi Power Fc.

Anyone willing to help a lowly RB20 owner trying to sus out some hillbilly R&D and get ahead in the world. :D

oi ash, don't order a power fc in the next month. Apexi have stopped making them till the end of June/Mid July and then they're gonna release a newer version with the handcontroller bundled at a CHEAPER price than it sells for now.

i've got access to an AP Engineerinig RB20DET PFC if u wanna try it. I brought it down ages ago for a guy who still hasn't fitted it. Might try to get him to lend it to me.

Yeh in Melbourne these days.... living in Brunswick East, if you need a Vic HQ Silver then drop me a PM if your in town... goes for any other NSW track/SAU guys i know.

Ive been talked into trying to get a Pro for my Rb20DET, which means the AP engineering one wont do.... so i have to try and make my own.... on paper the only difference between the ECUs is the variable valce timing etc, and the ECU shouldnt have a problem running open circuit .... so the main drama will be the plug itself (may need to make a fly wire) and the outputs from a few sensors (but std is 4-20mA) and 0-5V so shoudlnt be a problem, worst case scenario a few resistors or a bit more tuning to get the base maps to work.

Funkeymonkey or anyone else that can help.... that would be great

Sweet! Have you caught onto the track scene down there yet? I'd like to take the car for a fang around one of the tracks down there.
:werd:

road trip :)

SBS is alive and well down here :D

Yeh there is plenty of Sprint days with certain car clubs, and Winton & Calder have open days during the week (Winton on Fridays, Calder on Wednesdays)

There are a few likely lads from SAU-Vic that like to bash their cars around circuits, but at the minute dont have the numbers that NSW have. Still there seems plenty of opportunity, just not as a group with other Skyliners

See below for my first foray onto Vic circuits, there seems to be abot 4 or 5 of us going. Winton is about 550-600km drive from Sydney, about 400-450kms past Wakefield  ...

I feel it's time for Team Trackday to invade VIC. :)

I been to Winton and saw a few cars and bikes doing the circuit. How about Phillip island? Any clubs have regular outings there?

PIARC have regular days there, so do member clubs of Marque Sports Car Association (MSCA)

I went to Phillip Island the other week, its about a 2 hr drive from Melbourne, so would have to make it a weekend, but like i said, free accom at my place if you want to play up in the city while your down here. :alcoholic & :whip:

Whereas somewhere like Winton you can set up HQ in Benalla (?spelling?) or Albury, and saves about 4-5 hrs driving each way

I would probably have to come down for a weekend for sure. Winton is every Friday so that could be the go for now. I was down there on the long weekend. I don't know how you can cope with the cold being from Sydney.

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
