Just a bit of an FYI for people thinking of doing the same.

Do it!

In preparation for getting a tune, thought I'd pressure test the cooler pipes, checking for any leaks.

Car has been running fine (stock RB20, return flow cooler, 3 inch exhaust, 25 turbo).

Always seemed a bit lazy coming onto boost, but hey, its a RB20.

Never stalled, miss fired, or showed any signs of issues, so was reasonably confident I would find anything.

Boy was I wrong, 2 of the joiners were leaking badly enough to blow away the leak detector, another 2 were bubbling, and one nipple below the throttle body wasn't even connected! Easily fixed by just repositioning clamps and making sure they were tight.

This was on 14psi reg pressure, after fixing went to about 25psi on reg, all good.

Kinda embarrasing really.

Anyway, for anyone thinking of checking for leaks, do it.

Wishing i'd have done it before I had the turbo highflowed, so I could see if fixing the leaks made any difference.

I have to agree with this. First time I went for a tune I didn't check and the following week I found a split joiner and leaking AAC hose.

If you haven't ever done it, just do it. A decent leak will overspin your turbo trying to make up for the lost boost. It will also run super rich on boost (not for the guys running MAP). not only that but the wastegate will stay shut for longer and create more backpressure in the exhaust manifold under high boost which can cause det if you're tuned right on the edge.

Yep took my car for a tune (never though I had a boost leak)and the tuner put his rig on the pipes and at just 10 - 12 psi there was a leak from the HKS bov. It has the round mount held by a circlip and was lifting so packed it out replaced the circlip and tested ok at 30psi.

was smoke used for the leak test, i have had few done at the tuner but i doubt it ever was at 10-15psi, something with machine building pressure but open system etc etc, anyways one loose clamp detected first time and other times nothing

I may do this to mine. It idles high (~900-1000) even with the AACV cleaned and screwed in. No loss of boost, but sometimes it will hunt on idle. Checking the TPS voltage and AFM with a scan tool to check if they are ok, but after that I am out of ideas.

    • I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.  
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
