No, how would the computer get power ?

Ha said he can put the ECU into another R3 in the shop as it is easier that way or bench power the unit to install the file.

But if it is a RAM system and there is a battery in it ( I have not been able to find this info out) and the battery is stuffed how would it keep the tune until I get it back into my car, wish I knew more about computers :(

I guess I will find out, I sent the ECU off to Sydney. So I guess I will wait and see what happens when it comes back.

But for the hassle it causes even if it seems OK I will change it and I will go the Haltech Pro

What ECU was it, they might have a plug that will give it power that they can down load the tune, they just won't be able to check it

How did you lose the tune ?

Apexi ECU , they were going to use another car if they had a R34GTR there or power it up on the bench, so they must have something they can use?

I was coming home from Sydney after the new turbo, cam and new tune was done. had traveled about 300Kl, going great, like a new car, I was loving it, on a real twisty bit and having a bit of fun and the car cut out for a second or 2 and when the turbo kicked in it was shit, between 1500 and 3500revs before full boost it was fine, found a spot to pull over and the idle was rough and noisy and it conked out. Checked everything I could see and nothing seemed to be off or leaking, 45Kls from home, in the bush so I babied it home, the end :)

I will have the ECU back today, I will put it back in and see what happens.

Taking it back to Sydney next week for the Haltech Pro R34GTR, while I am there I will get a new exhaust system and fuel system and hopefully make it back home this time, haha

That sounds like an intake gasket blowing, I have had two Apexi PFCs one of which for 10 years and they don't just drop a tune like that that I have ever experinced or heard of

When I say check the tune, they would have to have a car with exactly the same mods setup exactly the same way so they can run it up on the dyno

What exhaust are you looking for, I have an bolton 80mm cat back blitz or apexi, can not remember ATM, I took of my 34 I'm selling cheap :D

Also have a chat to unigroup about their Blackbox or insight with his new EmTron, both of which I would consider better value for money

I am booked in for all of the work to be done.

I do not know about the gasket blowing, but when we went on Face Time with the FC hand commander the settings were back to original tune , the car was running VERY rich, rough and noisy at idle and we went through it, changed a few settings and got the car running OK and I changed the plugs, they were BLACK! I guess I could have just waited for the ECU to come back with the tune reloaded and just drive it hoping that it was a once off, BUT I have a lot of trouble getting to Sydney and will do all of this at once and get it over with.

If they used another R34 I would think they would just take the other ECU out, plug mine in and reload my Tune from their files , pull it out and replace the other ECU.

I have been after more torque down low as the car was a shit DD the way it was. As you can see from the Dyno last time Brown and the old Dyno Blue that it is getting much better :)and I expect a little better again this time.

I have the exhaust being custom made , I want it free flowing but not too loud, I am in a small town and once you get targeted, your stuffed :(

I have never heard of most things on SAU :)

BUT just installed the ECU and took it for a run, all good, well for now

He sent the hand unit back in case I have trouble on the way to Sydney, hope I do not have to unwrap it :)

    • Nah its a server spammer thing  Although, now that I manually approve all the accounts I can probably loosen up some of the restrictions.
    • Thread bump, again! Although, no bad news this time. Posting for the sake of possible root cause. Basically, I rebuilt it (mostly stock), installed Haltech + sensors, had it running fine on new ECU.  Still not really understanding why it cracked pistons last time. Got to tuners, and while checking timing, noticed +-10deg of timing scatter while revving. Changed CAS, and it was rock solid. While not definitive, can't imagine seeing 20+ psi with that amount of scatter would be a good thing. Also glad I found something.   Bit more of a run down; Carried out a stock rebuild, a set of stock pistons, out of a spare bottom end. Everything stock apart from head studs and oil restrictors. (so I can pretend I didn't let the Nissan out, ha.) Armed with the measuring gear and FSM, set about doing overhaul. Oil restrictors as per oil control thread for a RB25, stock oil pump, drifting. Head drain/vent from rear of head, to passenger side of sump above oil level. Two dash 10 vent lines from drivers side of sump (unused atm) Hi octane style cam cover breather kit Splash covers over last 2 cam caps. Both breather lines from cam covers to vented to atmosphere catch can, not plumbed back into sump (wanted to see what it was actually breathing). Got it run in (did about a 1000km) no to low boost scenario, As I had questions over old ECU setup. Installed haltech +sensors for flex Retune on E85 (finding CAS Issue along the way), made 300rwkw at 20psi, out of wastegate. Did a drift day the next day (yes, it was a big weekend!) and was checking catch can throughout the day, ZERO blowby. I mean nothing. Lines from cam covers are not even wet. Done a bunch of street driving, spirited and catch can is still dry. Early days I guess, but pretty happy so far. Also now run 10w60, up from the 10w40 that I used to run. Oil pressure is significantly better, especially when hot (as you would expect)
    • Thanks buddy. I thought it was a server storage thing. 🤣
    • Perfect! Thanks for this, both look like great options!
