Ok I have been asked will I do a build thread and I replied its alot of effort but what the heck I always have time somewhere up my sleve for my GTR'S so here goes I will do my best and see where it ends up I work away alot so time is a factor.

Ever since I was a teenager I loved skylines my first been a r33 gts t s1 , it was imaculant and in very good cond I looked after it very well with alot of passion .

I then went onto something smaller and better 1989 32gtr one of my favorite cars to this day. I bought thus gtr with a forged motor running -5 with all the supporting mods etc . Was running 450 at x4 . This was a big jump from the 33. Was a quick neat little car and used to pull very hard. I then moved to west aus from lismore nsw I drove it from there to adelaide and on the way encounted some nice hill climbs and windy roads. I blew a turbo up just ouside of adelaide I had no choice but to drive it the rest if the way to get it on the train to west aus. I bought 2 new turbos and had them fitted and tuned to 3 months later a nice rb26 engine knock I know we all know that notorious knock .........

So engine out basicaly got burnt builder fitted the new forged art of work. And hooked up the oil lines to the external filter relocator the wrong way . = pop when it was at hyperdrive getting the base tune set filter blew off accross the workshop with a big bang into someone elses skylines drivers seat .... shizz

Long story short got insurance got the motor built again by the same builder , he took on the whole job this time incl removal of engine where as the mech I used before just stripped and assembled and sent to this same engine build shop in canning vale I cant menchion there named beacuse thats against thread rules. Anyways they done a very poor job and ripped me off. Really sounds like I didnt have much luck here "I didnt" . I had the car handed back with oil leaks from every spot you can think of amongst other major things. What a nightmare.

Went through court again got nowhere with my case ended up getting 1500 out of it after many court meetings. I had Dany from garage 101 finish it all off and get it running. In the end it turned out to be good but not what I had drempt of . Kept it for a while running a 3rd set of -5 garrets ,farrk I must love these turbos answer = I do great turbs highly recommend. Anyways it made 500 hp at all 4 it went hard ya ya ya. Sold it back in april 2013 thinking to myself thats the end of the gtr life buttttttt I was wrong.... read on!

I bought a navara d40 and my brother still had his mint r33 gtr I always loved the thing it was the cleanest 33 I have seen around to this day. Anyways lomg story short he had to sell it due to money issues. So I could not turn down the buy I bought it payed cash .

I drive it a couple times every 2 weeks cause I work away plus i got my nav and I got myself thinking about another motor because this one was dead stock with a few bolt ons . Done some hard research and trying to find the right person to do the job and not be told rediulous

Quotes and that u need a n1 block to build a reliable rb . I got onto robbie at rips as of a few days ago we have been talking over emails and I have payed a deposit already have him started on my rb30 yessssssss ! I think its the best choice I have made and I trust rob will do a fantastic job and my motor will last for years and years to come. Bring on torque twist!!

Sorry if my grama is wrong I havent checked over it yet just whipped it up

The end of that and the begining of a new start stay tuned !!!

Cheers

car all in place ready to start pulling motor out i wont go into detail here but i did pull the engine out with gearbox attached and for my first time pulling out an rb26 i think i went pretty well, alot tighter than the dump trucks im used to working on anyways heres some photos of the start of my removal and strip down and some researching more coming soon

sorry about the double post this is so annoying posting on here not going my way at all anyways engine removed and after doing some research and talking to a few people , i decided instead of going for normal 26 build that every tom dick and harry does including myself previously, i would try something different. I did have rips racing in mind, i have seen alot of his work and its just quality next to none, i shot a few emails away and pretty much decided on his 26/30 build straight away from what i can gather is that robbie is the man to go to and he is highly recomended by alot of people , his product seems to be tested and proven to last and be reliable just what i was looking for! i wasnt going to get it wrong the 3rd time around , i wanted it done wright this time. stay tuned more coming probably not the best thread but i was asked if i was going to write one so i thought i would give it a crack , i also work away 2 weeks at a time so i wont be back home til next wed , then i will start the strip down process of the motor and get the head and parts required for bottem end packed up and sent to robbie for now goodnight .

Sweet whip!

Good to hear you went with RIPS, there's noone better to build an RB30/26!

Just make sure that you have a good tuner sorted, because that's the most important part of the reliability!

What turbo combination and power level are you going with?

I might be getting a but ahead of myself here but greedy oceana are closed down for good and kudos had a couple of 16 row oil cooler relocation kits note one in pic is a 13 row . Shipped and on its way to a new home .

Looks like it will be an absolute weapon!

I know the ATI damper is great, but I believe Rob usually uses Ross items.

Any particular reason for going with the ATI over the Ross?

How much did you get the Tomei pump for?

As far as I know the prices can vary wildly between 1900 and 2800. At least here in NZ.

Its much of a muchness really, they both sound like great products.

It's just that he used Ross on my build, but they are known for throwing belts, which can't help their reputation!

Thats a great price for a Tomei pump!

Oh and the pic you put up is of a dry sump RB30 but I get the idea

Yeah I had a ross on my r32 in pics above . The pic above I coppied and pasted straight of the website in bare long motor 4wd. Are you sure its the dry sump setup in pic .....

Certain, look at the cam covers. They are much smaller and also have the vacuum regulation fitting on the top.

Additionally you will see that the "oil pump" is standard design (oil relief adjuster points down), and will not have any gears in it!

Definitely dry sump

Ok well you get the idea anyways

If it was me I'd treat the paint just like the exterior of the car. So soap followed by a wax would be a good start?

For anything stubborn you can use petrol and just make sure you completely rinse it off afterwards.

Cheers I didnt buy this for this specific reason I needed one of these bad boys ...

    • I've replaced the front brakes of my NA to 324 brembos and 350z calipers: i'm going for 225/40-18 up front and 245/35-18 in the back. I have Rays 7.5*19 ET35(225/35) in the front with 5mm spacers otherwise the calipers "lock up/ won't rotate". When i use the calculator i come up with 8*18 ET30 for 225/40...... but not sure i get problems with the calipers. Anyone riding around with 18 inch. that can confirm "that it'll fit"? In the back it's 7.5*9 ET30 (245/30) with the 5mm spacers, but there is no problem with the standard small brakes, so i want to take 8.5*18 ET25 (245/35).
    • Lol.. but then.. always come back to a JDM..
    • Glad to hear. If possible, get your tuner to check air's to make sure everything is still where it should be.
    • The problem with FB/Insta/Reddit etc comments relating to cars is simple. You get to ask a question once, and get one round of replies. For things that can actually be answered in a few lines of text, once, it's fine. After 6 hours, your original question is lost to the void. There are no follow ups, additional questions, anything. No project car is ever such a simple list of questions to ask. You need discussion.
    • Welcome.  Here's what I have noticed about forum vs FB..... FB; seems to be wallet racing, and the same few questions asked over and over. There *may* be some groups that are closer knit, but most have changed for the worse. SAU; unfortunately, no longer in its glory days. But....genuine people with similar interests. Not all about how much you spent and saying you dont have enough power. Sooooooo much knowledge available. Have personally seen people post up about literally topics I made myself, asking on FB like no one has done it before. Most has been done, and most of that is here.   If you ever feel like just general chatting theres the wasteland.  Other interests are also generally covered in other areas of the forum. Hope you enjoy hanging around. We would love to have you.   P.s. nice 32 😀
