Hey,

I've been browsing for a while and thought I'd ask for some help.

I'm currently on my L's, Haven't done much driving due to not owning a car (I went on a holiday to China instead of buying a car). Now that I'm in the market for a car I'd thought I'd ask for a rough estimate on a R34. I'm thinking it would be around 9K-12K depending on the state of the car. What I'm looking for is something with not to many mods, automatic, body kit installed, average amount of K's and the car to be clean (no major dint's or scratches, clean interior, good paint). Am I in the right price range? I've seen some go for a lot lower but the quality of the car was minimum.

Also I'd rather not wait till I get my fulls and buy a Turbo, I'll be pretty satisfied with a clean N/A R34.

Thanks :)

It fluctuates a little between states.. So it can depend where you are. But for 12k, there is no reason you can't find a turbo auto. There will be a gem every now and then, and that is how I bought mine. Most manual turbos in WA are going for 18k ATM, with minor mods like ecu, boost controller, exhaust, etc - nothing major. I bought a 260rwkw with all the fruit for 16k, with 106k kms on it. Obviously if you are over east, you can't get a turbo, am I right?

In WA atm, there is an auto r34 with repairable front end damage (just new radiator, and front bar apparently) for 8k.

Easily get a decent auto r34 for what your willing to pay.

Ah that's good to know :)

Yeah I'm located in NSW, forgot to add that. So turbo is a no go until fulls.

8k isn't too bad, guess I could find something pretty decent for my price range in NSW then.

They range from 9k to 15k on average, with the R34 GT-V being the most expensive (due to having turbo charged bits and pieces).

Ohh and i just saw your last comment.... No you wont be satisfied with a non turbo, youre only on your Ls! You havent experienced anything yet. When you see a standard FG xt falcon pull away from you, you will feel dissatisfied. Come to think of it, single turbo gtt stock is also not very satisfying :P

Oh what it was like to be young!

I bought my first skyline when I was 18, after driving a 2L n/a camry for 2 years. I thought the power was AMAZING. Like putting my foot down would scare me. Hahahaha.

Now I'm ok with my 260rwkw and I am trying to chase more power. It's like a heroine addiction, nothing was like that first hit and you are always trying to chase it...

Haha exactly, you always want more, especially if there is someone faster. That ego haha.

What makes me spit it is the xr6 turbos. Those barra motors are so f**king fast. I'm at the point where v8's don't phase me too much, but those fords can haul some ass with some small mods.

The Xr6 turbo, especially the BF and FG with the ZF auto, farrrk, does numbers around most v8s. Had a run at a stock FG xr6 turbo with my evo (also stock) only had the lead till 60kp/h, till he caught up and pulled away. Theyre quick man, probably the only aussie car id actually buy. You can get them running 12s easily, cheaper to mod as well. Not sure how it will hold up on the track though compared to evos and GTRs haha.

Yeah I have a feeling they are only like straight lines. Being a passenger vehicle, they have a fair bit of body roll with the shitty suspension and I don't think the brakes are anywhere near track spec. But I guess if you put the money into them they would be machines - as is the case with most cars though haha. At the end of the day, they are Australian, so they are never going to be that great.

Haha! Well I've got to start somewhere, and Skyline's are the only decent looking cars. My whole family owns either a Ford or Holden :/ My brother owns a R33 gts-though so It gives me some idea of what turbo feels like.

Don't have a need for a 4 door, but it's good to know if I ever do that they're fairly cheap.

Nobody needs a skyline in general man :P You either want it or you dont. Its obvious you want the coupe so just say so, dont try to justify that the 4 door is overkill hence why you want the 2 door. But answering your original question, you will find a clean one from the dealership, if not private sale for 10-12k :)

Yeah true. Would much prefer coupe. Will be buying one in 2-3months after a holiday so hopefully I can find one I'm looking for.

No worries, word of advice though, having owned 2 skylines and have 3 other friends with skylines, make sure the coilpacks have been changed. R34 coilpacks end up dieing around 80,000ks giving you a check engine light error, along with shaky idles, misfires, and poor acceleration. Based on my experience as well as a couple of my mates, it is bound to happen.

Ah alright. Thanks for the tip :)

If you enjoy driving, don't get an auto. You'll pay more for a manual but it's worth it. So yeah 2 doors 4 doors turbo or not - get it in manual :)

(And yes you can convert to a manual later but it's a massive hassle - been there done that...)

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
