So I have an r34 Gtt and I live in mt barker area, I never used to have a problem with it starting but with these colds mornings we have been having -2 it won't start, it will just turn over and sometimes a little splutter but won't start and the battery will start to go flat before it will start. But when I get home after work it will start first turn of the key. I don't know what to try any ideas will be much appreciated

Cheers Dale

Well sometime my temp gauge will just go from normal operating temp then just drop to cold all of a sudden but then will come back up to normal, I read a bit on why it would do that and all I could find was the connection to the temp sensor might be poor making it drop in and out. I checked the wires but they were that bad, why would the temp sensor stop the car from starting?

I am also doing plugs tonight

Thanks for your help ben

There are 2 temp sensors. One for the gauge and on e for the ecu.

The gauge one will make no difference at all.

The ecu uses the sensor to richen up the mixtures, sort of like putting on the choke. If it is faulty it would cause starting issues when cold.

They are pretty cheap but also easy to check. You need a multimeter and measure it's resistance at known temperatures. Compare against specs, Google should help there.

Could have something to do with it, except the sensor for the dash is different to the ecu temp sensor.

It leads me to the conclusion the power to the sensors may be shorting or have a bad connection somewhere.

Had a similar problem with my 32 - even jump start wouldn't get the engine to start. Turned out the starter motor was cactus with a short in the armature. New starter motor, no more starting problems.

    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
