Ive been doing an rb25 into s13 conversion on and off for a while now. Im putting the harness in but I cant seem to find the air regulator plug. I know of the AAC plug (the purple one) but cant find the other one. Is it part of a separate harness?

I think it will be PWM controlled by the ECU. The other plug that you dont have (which is brown in the photo I have, on the valve itself) goes to a solenoid so will need PWM to allow varying amounts of air through

Now there's a solenoid? :P lol damn

I cant take pics as the car is at my brothers work shop but googling around, the plug im missing is blue. The plug that goes into the AAC is purple (have that plugged in) and there is a brown plug I have nfi where it goes. Im guessing that's for the solenoid?

Stupid car....

My sister has a Series 2 R33 and is bone stock. I think im going to have a look at it and see what im missing. I think I have that solenoid in my parts bin somewhere...

The air reg is simply a 12V bi-metallic strip valve, nothing flash.

No ecu input, just power on when the IGN is on.

Doesn't even need 12V, engine bay heat will eventually shut the valve.

A pain to access on a 25, impossible on a 26.

I hate them.

Not to be confused with the purple plug idle bump up for the aircon.

Or the brown plug for the AAC.

Of course this is presuming the OP is talking about an R33 Rb25 and not a Neo.

Thanks for the post. Its a great help and yeah, its an r33 25.

Thanks guys, love this forum.

Just as an added extra people used to power these cold start air valves off the fuel pump circuit say with a relay . The idea being that if the ignition was on for any length of time without the engine running the valve wouldn't be heating and closing up .

As mentioned most engines had these valves mounted somewhere where they got coolant heat early in the warm up phase so that if the power feed failed they'd still heat up and close .

How does the Neo system work .

A .

Although the air reg is IGN "ON" for power, it's actually all part of the fuel pump relay power feed which is controlled by the ecu.

So once the ecu times out the fuel pump, power to the air reg is also cut.

Attached is Rb26 system, 20 and 25 are similarly controlled.

Yes Cal, the brown plug (AAC) is ecu controlled, varying duty cycle signal.

Your purple plug is the idle bump up for air con, just an on/off solenoid not hard wire linked to the engine ecu.

Of course your aircon control unit (amplifier) does tell the engine ecu to control the compressor's magnetic clutch.

Found a photo of the Rb26 air reg, buried under the plenum.

They all look the same, 20, 25, 26, 30......horrible things.

    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
    • OK, so a bunch of trim needs to come off to get to the rear shock top mounts. Once the seat is out of the way, the plastic trim needs to come off. Remove 2 clips at the top then slide the trim towards the centre of the car to clear the lower clip Next you need to be able to lift the parcel shelf, which means you need to remove the mid dark trim around the door, and then the upper light trim above the parcel shelf. The mid trim has a clip in the middle to remove first, then lift the lowest trim off the top of the mid trim (unclips). At the top there is a hidden clip on the inner side to release first by pulling inwards, then the main clip releases by pulling the top towards the front of the car. The door seal comes off with the trim, just put them aside. The the lighter upper trim, this is easy to break to top clips so take it carefully. There is a hidden clip towards the bottom and another in the middle to release first by pulling inwards. Once they are out, there are 3 clips along the rear windscreen side of the panel that are hard to get under. This is what the rear of the panel looks like to assist:
    • Yes. Autos typically work from the speed sensor on the pinion shaft of the diff. I also think that even if you have a proper speed sensor for the bog manual in the manual box, that the signal it outputs is not compatible with the auto dash anyway. You should consult that manual (the book, not the gearbox).
    • And I just realised that that advice is slightly nonsensical for a GTR, because you need 2 of them. But it is otherwise true.
    • Having had a reasonable look at the car, I'll be able to remove the (one time) rams and retract the hinge (they are held in the down location by a tiny (m3?) sacrificial screw) which will get it physically back in shape. From there if you remove the rams you need a resistor to turn off the airbag light (as Mark said, there are plug in kits and I might go that way because its reversible). And...per all the threads on here, even if you have the resistors to turn off the airbag light, the bonnet light will stay on as it writes to the airbag computer history - that is either replace the airbag controller, reprogam the EPROM (if I can work out how), or remove the globe from the dash. Having seen how sensitive this system is, if I had my time over I'd pre-emptively remove the rams, even on a road car, because this is all a very unnecessary pain in the arse. Reminds me, time to go and have a look at the Fuga too....
