Depending on how many mods etc there are on the vehicle I will be selling for between 24-26K This is fully landed/complied/roadworthy ready for rego.

All imports are between 3.5 to 4 grade (trust me when I tell you that if someone advertises a grade 4 import or higher for an 89 model they are likely to be full of it.

Cars will have approx 80,000Km.

I honestly dont see how people can justify the huge price increase. I realise money has to be made but its frustrating for buyers. I purchased a 89' GTR in march from the importer mentioned in this thread. After extensive difficulties with his service (i'm not going into in public), i decided to opt for a refund - the car i purchased was going to work at at less than $20,000 including a $2000 buffer above what the suggested lannded and compiled cost of the car was ensuring that if troubles arised - i could pay for them.

Since this time i've been looking locally - they seem to be demanding atleast $5,000 in my opinion than they should - Sure its up to them to set a price, i understand that. After going and inspecting some of the cars on carsales, its rediculous the condition these cars (ripped seats -interior condition leading to the suggestion of high kms, visibly bad accident history repair, colour change resprays, and there panning them off as being 65,000km cars) - (i'm not trying to make a general statement about all 89' GTRs). - Yet the still demand the high prices, again, i know people wanna make money out of the risk involved in importing a car. But it would nice if a middle ground could be found...

That said, if theres anyone out there thats seriously selling an 89' GTR in melbourne, for a reasonable price i'm interested (Contact me via email) ...

Are you saying that as an average joe off the street you can get a GTR landed complied/engineered/RWC and registered for $20K. :bs!:

Unless you are the importer yourself or know someone very well then this price is a little bit conservative.

Buying a car sight unseen, that is not roadworthied for $20000 is high risk.. not many people want to take this risk.. you may have a nice looking car but it could be a big lemon requiring alot of $$$ to get it to roadworthy standard. This could be tappet leaks/seals gone, or a rust problem which seems to be a big issue with alot cars from Japan.

To be honest for all the hastle of getting the car here and up to standard- $25K is a very very reasonable price.

As far as the interior issues you mention?? well you are obviosly going throught the wrong dealer.

Apart from 2 small cigarette burns in the back seat, my interior on my GTR is perfect. so in reply to your issue of all 89 cars having higher miles due to bad interiors I would say not true.

Generally speaking the rule of thumb at the moment is that for $22K-$25K you get a fairly ordinary GTR and above that you get something better.

But I assure you there are genuine Good GTR's (like mine) for sale that are high quality not flogged imports.

Was it less than $25K as I was indicating? - would be surprised..

I agree with alot of what mcmn is saying there are alot of very high priced 32 GTR's out there but they are consistent with the price you pay R33 GTR as well.

Average price is approx $40K

my thoughts exactly aybee. People will argue that prestiges pricing is too low and it cost them lots more to get it on the road, but even taking the worst possible scenario its not going to be the extent people are selling them at. And again, for 26K importing, you could get an absolute killer 89 gtr.

But that said, i will never ever buy through an importer as my dealings with the discussed importer resulted in a lack of confidence in their professionalism. Hence, as said before iam willing to pay a little extra, but i'd rather catch the bus for the next couple of months that pay the large margins most are asking for currently.

i think prices of all 89 gtr`s won`t go any where but up ..stopping at about 28 for the good one`s..due to this i think..

Prospective importers should be aware that there may be changes to the current regulations. You should not assume that vehicles manufactured in 1990 will be allowed to be imported should the regulations be changed.

there was only 5000 made in 89 to start with ...how many is left after 15 years ???

how many good ones out them that are left???

when r32`s have to go thru sevs /raws after 15yr rule is stopped add another 3.5k to compliance....plus non accident.(even small) /back to std cars only eligible...very hard to find in japan..therefore more expensive to buy ...mid 20k is about as cheap as they`ll get

and AYBEE..anyone that puts there money on the dock in japan for XX no of months..takes the punt so to speak plus all other b/s involved ..docks compliance etc..is intitled to make a decent profit....if you don`t agree Take THE PUNT

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.  
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
