Revhead
i agree it might be a tottaly unrelated event, but still, have a little respect for the situation that they are in, if i was attending an accident with a possible death, and someone crack the funniest joke in the world, i sure as hell wouldnt be laughingI can see how people think this way, but having worked in hospitals pretty much ever since I left school, and before that, having a nurse for a mother, you get a pretty good insight into what these people (emergency workers) go through. Have a little respect for THEM.You cannot go moping around every single time a tragedy happens, when you see as many as they do it would tear you apart mentally. What you have to do is distance yourself from the situation, try not to think too much about the "omg he was someone's son" aspect of things. Everyone has a different way of coping with a traumatic event, for some people (myself included actually) one such coping mechanism is to laugh at it. Not at the event, but at the trauma, the upset, and whatever other feelings are trying to bring you down at the time. The act of laughing, even if it is at nothing in particular, can help to nullify the effects of a very traumatic event. Also, sometimes the laughter is a REACTION to the trauma. I've been in a children's ward when a young child has died after a long battle with a serious illness, and two of the staff in the room got the giggles. They weren't laughing - they were in fact crying hysterically - but mammoth amounts of built-up stress with a sudden release can give those kinds of results. Goon
I see what you mean. Obviously, i havn't really had any experince with these things, but i just looked innapropriate, given the situation. i guess, you have to give a bit of leeway for emergency personal, as they have to deal witht these situations pretty much every day, and they cant allow themselves to be tramatised by it. thanks for clearing that up Marc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45526-absolutly-fcuked-rex/page/2/#findComment-928854 Share on other sites
