I think I would keep a watch out for JDMs in Australia too. As much as Aussies preferring to sell to fellow Aussies, we've been blessed with quite a few cars which have been modified already and modified well.

Some of the tuners are very good at what they do here.

And many owners are picky.

Mind you, the bad ones can be sorted out in various ways too.

I know I'm going to be keeping an eye on R34s in Australia when the time comes :)

In case anyone here is curious about the crap we have to put up with on the US forums here's a prime example:

http://www.gtrlife.com/forums/topic/141298-1991-bnr32-gt-r-v-spec-ii-n1-purchase/

So basically this guy is claiming he's bringing in a "1991 R32 GT-R V-spec II N1" to the US. For one thing the first N1s were sold in June 1991 so they won't even be legal until June 2016. Second there is no such thing as a 1991 V-spec II because the V-spec II wasn't made until 1994! The V-spec was introduced in 1993 because of Nissan's race victories - hence VICTORY spec.

When called out he then says he's got a "prototype" car which he believes is #57 out of the 228. Funny how he knows that since the N1s weren't sequentially numbered unlike the Nismos.

Then he says he can get R34s legally too because he "knows people". And that he can get a "Nismo R34" but it's NOT a Z-tune because he says he can get an "M-tune and M Nur". Funny how I've never heard or can find any evidence of an "M-tune" just the M-spec and M-spec Nur which wasn't a Nismo model and had changes meant for more luxury versus the V-spec.

The troll is strong with this one.

He's an oxygen thief!

Bob.

That's a good way to describe him. Oxygen theft may not be the only thing he's doing that's not legit given how he keeps saying he has "connections" lol.

Australia is not immune to such idiots. Mostly, car club members sort them out.

I'm sure all countries have their share of morons but as far as Skylines go the US seems to breed a lot of them because of all the misinformation that's spread since they were deemed illegal. This particular thread is shockingly bad though lol.

lol, I love these kind of people.

Fools and pathologic liars can be very amusing lol.

So does the illegality of Skyline GTRs encourage intrigue from obtuse upstarts?

I'd say yes. Usually there are two types of threads - the ill-informed who honestly don't know what they're getting into and then there are the know-it-alls who claim they know better than people who actually own these cars and have been at it for a while. It's pretty common to see both but the latter are especially stupid because they usually act like big shots with all the answers but then disappear when push comes to shove and proof is asked for.

Here's another example from skylineowners.com. It starts with an ill-informed guy who obviously doesn't know about the legal status of the R33 then comes along another guy who claims all the forum posters don't know crap (including a guy who does own a LEGAL R33 ironically):

http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/186-usa-members-forum/262938-how-much-nissan-skyline-r33-worth.html

You also get a lot of companies making false claims about being able to bring in Skylines legally, some stories of which are mentioned here:

http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/the-facts-about-nissan-skyline-importation-into-the-united-states-5.html

I don't know anything about them. I guess it's up to me to find out instead of living in a closet. :)

I was told by the interviewer that there's a large following overseas and mostly about JDM.

I've just been interviewed by SpeedHunters.com

Apparently there are a few followers in the US.

Do gtr owners you know of, follow that site?

How do you find SAU?

Pros and cons?

Wow, you're lucky to be interviewed by SpeedHunters! They're only one of the most popular modified car blogs in the US lol. They have some really awesome features including some great articles on Nismo and the Omori Factory. Their main man in Japan Dino Dalle Carbonare is a Skyline fan himself and owns an R34 GT-R. Lots of GT-R fans follow that site and they often feature GT-Rs. Every year they do a feature on the Nismo Festival and the R's Meeting.

As for how I find SAU - I think it's a great site and is the easiest to get knowledge and advice from of the Skyline forums I go to. One thing I've always found odd since I came here is that there's a separate R35 section but no specific Skyline section - just the "Vehicle Specific Discussion" area. It's not a problem but just seemed different to me from other forums. Also compared to other forums SAU hasn't seemed to attract a lot of American members so far compared to other forums despite the surge in R32 ownership over here - which is a shame since as I said I've found this site more helpful than others I've been to. I think it may have to do with the name. I notice the UK-based Skylineowners.com gets a lot more American activity in its forum and it may be that people gravitate toward it because the name doesn't mention any nationality while Skylines Australia may give the impression it caters to Australian owners only - I know that's not true but it may just be the impression people get especially when they do a search online for Skyline forums.

I love reading Speedhunters' features like these ones for Omori Factory and the R34 Clubman Race Spec. The pictures are gorgeous!

If you haven't already discovered it, another great read is Aki's blog. It has good enthusiast info from a lot of Japanese articles, sources and resources, and discusses all the skyline GTR models.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
