M35 Mods

What would you guys consider the basic mods that are like a must have for M35s? Coilovers, seats, exhaust, intake, wheels, brake cut mod, boost controller? Other stuff? Say you bought a standard one, what would be the first things you would be buying? Likewise, what do see as pointless or a waste? An example I think I read somewhere was a strut tower bars don't really work with M35s?

Shift kit, and a large external transmission cooler.

Brake cut mid is really nice, and a full dump to tip 3" exhaust.

Those 4 would be my start point; work your way up from there.

As above. And the m35 exhaust is restrictive as hell, so dump and cat work helps. Also depending on ks, watch the stock turbo, they tend to starve n cook, so a highflo helped me.

They tend to run hot, so any additional cooling cant hurt longevity.

Also, have money,if no one mentioned that before u got one, start saving. They're a unique lux cruiser that are hard to fault after some coin. At least thats been my experience

The stock sway bars are almost useless, and the bushes will probably be worn too.

SuperPro make some solid bars, huge improvement for $250 each.

For me, I like the comfortable stock suspension, though I've never driven one with BC's.

Careful choosing hardness if you do, it's a heavy car and the shock mounts rip out from fatigue.

I have skimmed that thread and will read it in more detail but this was a little different (I thought) as I was looking specifically at the basic "must haves" not at anything and everything people have done.

Hahaha, an Evo wagon would be ideal, quite pricey and rare though.

Haha, pretty sure you're not allowed to import them. Unless they're a personal import. Supposedly 4 in Australia according to a few ads.

(Don't take my word for it though).

Pretty sure you are right on all accounts, I know 2 are in the country.

I've only ever seen one. In the 2 ads i've seen over the last 6 months or so, both have stated that there are only 4 in the country.

Before i got my M35 i pre ordered a few things. When i go it i installed Coilovers, HDi intercooler, cat back exhaust, Boost controller, and an ajustable BOV.

All of those combined made a huge difference, but after a day on the track the Stag showed a few weak spots. Overheating, no grip with current tyres and a lot of understeer.

I am now changed the direction which i was going and looking at improving cooling (Alloy radiator, trans cooler, oil cooler, thermo fans etc), after all that I'll be looking at bracing and sway bars and tyres obviously.

    • Updating results.  Using ATR45SS-0 model VS UHF57-900. Those two are very different turbos, different wheels sets with different wheel hub profiles but yet with almost identical result. I’m intrigued with both turbos performance. ATR45SS-0 was a 61mm turbo first developed in May 2020, UHF57-900 was a 62mm turbo developed in March 2024 as a powered up alternative of a G30-900. On paper ATR45SS-0 maxed at 563rwkws, while UHF57-900 maxed at 568rwkws. ATR45SS was slightly more responsive with slightly better power band through the mid range.  Road driving ability, ATR45SS-0 had better throttle response, felt more robust under throttle, as it wakes up earlier. I think G series wheel hub design made it to have higher inertia under light throttle. Doing bit more prototype work in the next few weeks, will update result when its back on dyno again. ATR45SS0 Blue, UHF57-900 Red Chequered tuner's Dynapack hub dyno, E85 fuel. Mod list is in video below video_20240604_114214.mp4
    • Did you run the power cables for the mac valve to the other side of the car near the fusebox? Utilizing the stock boost controller cables? or did you run new ones?
    • Hey I have a potentially stupid HICAS question 🤣 I'm currently doing a full hicas delete, Power steering pump modified to non hicas, all lines removed from the car along with all electronics. My stupid question is - Do I need a lock out bar? is there any reason why I cant just remove everything from the rear end? I already have a lock out bar but thinking to save a few extra grams I could also get rid of the arms and tie rods as well and just run it with nothing in its place? or would it have a negative effect on handling?
