Hi,

Looking at buying an R33 and there are a few nice examples around.. Trying to gauge on what fuel economy will be.. Looking at an R33 2 door, has a bigger turbo, Adaptronic ECU, 750cc injectors and a few other things..

Its my understanding that 750cc is quite high on these motors for 300HP... Is it going to be using 20L per 100km combined? That might be a deal breaker and i may have to look for a more stock example if the fuel usage is going to be fairly high.

Thanks,

Glen

(Post your mods and economy)

Thanks. Was talking to a tuner at a Jap workshop in WA and was told to expect around 20L but.. that might be with heavier right foot perhaps? I'd be pretty happy with 15L but, i wouldnt want to buy this car in particular, only to have to get smaller injectors and re-tune to try to get somewhat-sane fuel economy haha

Just for reference, I make a fair whack more power than the R33 you're looking at and happily will do 12L per 100km or less on the highway using road tyres. With semis it chews heaps of fuel.

Thanks everyone and Ben from the internet! WIll let her know that Ben from the internet said that all will be well :D

In reference to the 250km to the full tank daily driven, what size is the fuel tank? Know roughly how much you used? That's a little scary but.. The plan is to sell our $30k patrol for the or a $10k skyline so.. Fuel usage a little high might not be the end of the world. We do have a V6 Accord that will happily run off of 10L per 100 around town and 7L per 100 on the highway so, that can be the "fuel efficient" car if need be!

When the light comes on, takes about 49~52L to fill back up to the top.

I had a CG9? (1998) V6 Accord, it drank more than my shit box R33 and made like 1/4 of the power lol

Wow thats crazy! They must have improved the V6 motor perhaps? I dont know a lot about the Honda timeline and their models, only ours. Its a 2008 3.5L V6. 202KW with paddleshift and it shuts off 3 of the cylinders when youre not using much power to try save fuel. Seems pretty good on fuel and it is actually pretty quick for a RWD but.. I miss my turbo's and man oh man, the 3L 3 tonne patrol is slow!

Come on Johnny, if the 33 hears you say that it'll blow up!

Well it's got a new turbo and a track day coming up on the 30th May, I have a feeling the old 360 xxx km Edward Lee's Special Edition motor might not like being thrashed off its tits making more power & torque.

Im sorry... did you just say the motor has 360,000km on it? :D Does that mean im worrying about nothing when im looking at 150 - 170,000km models?

Sure does, and I thrash it harder than I thrash a rental car... clock says 160xxx now... but because it came from Edward Lees Import, I've added a precautionary 200 000 km to it.

I'm basing that off the sloppy tie rods, worn out bushes (subframe, diff, power steering, bushes on all arms, caster, etc.) all of which I've replaced with Hardrace and/or Superpro shit.

Also, when I bought the car off the original owner who bought it off Edward Lees it supposedly had a major service done... when I pulled off the timing cover the belt looked like it had been there for a few hundred thousand kms lol...

At the end of the day, zero fuuarks were given.. paid $4.5k for a stock R33 S2, albeit had wank Autosalon wheels on it and a bunch of rubbish parts on it which were removed and disposed of or sold.

Ah cool... How often are these cars wound back? Got my eye on a few online.. One of which is the one with the 750cc injectors. Another, is one that had a motor failure pretty early on and had a motor supplied and installed by a Perth importer. Likely for the KM's on that motor to have been given to the customer incorrectly when he bought the motor?

I'll definitely have my eyes open when looking thats for sure... Dont want to end up with a heap of crap.

    • Yes I can see how that would put you off HFM, especially with the price of good quality brake fluid. From what I understand it as you say the BM50 is the standard BMC for a R32 GTR, I must admit I would like to go far a Genuine Nissan BM57, but lack of cash prevents that at present. With the price being so close between the genuine BM50 and BM57 a BM57 New it seems a better choice as you gain that 1/16 bore size with the BM57, I would be interested in how much difference you feel with the BM57 fitted. I am going to take SteveL's advice in the short term and see how much actually comes out of that proportioning valve vent and save up for the Genuine Nissan part. Thanks for clarifying the HFM failure
    • Thanks mate. I just got the post inspection 1/2 done from state roads when the starter motor packed up, either that or the car alarm system is having trouble.  OEM part number 23300-AA112.
    • Hi, I though I was coming to an end in finding a replacement starter motor for a rb25de neo. I came across a starter motor from Taarks and a message below stating: Direct fit. 11 Tooth count. All below part numbers have been superseded to 11 teeth. Can some body shed some light on going from 8 teeth to 11 teeth apart from 36-month / 25,000 km warranty for passenger vehicles to 12 Month Warranty. Compatible with the following Nissan part numbers: 23300-20P00 23300-20P01 23300-20P05 23300-20P10 23300-20P11 23300-AA111 23300-AA112 23300-AA300 23300-08U10 23300-08U11 23300-08U15
    • Low battery? Maybe check capacity? I know first-hand, on BMWs if your battery drops below 80% capacity, it starts causing strange issues.
    • 8.5 +37 = should fit rear, but I think it'll hit on front. What you want is low 30s/high 20's front, mid 30's rear. That 17" screenshot you posted looks good, I'd run it on my R32 (but that's long dead now). For tyre sizes, my rule of thumb is: 8': 235, 9": 255. But that's just my opinion. Nismo sizes: 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+38 is a good starting point.
