Hi, I'm looking into purchasing an R34 25GT, after looking at some insurance companies and using the quote systems I've found out that insurance is upwards of $3000 and for NRMA it was over $5000. I'm wondering if there are any good companies that are willing to insure an R34 25GT for a more reasonable price, I've heard about Famous insurance but I can't seem to get the quote system working.

I'm sure there are lots of people on here with opinions about getting an R34 as a first car, but please don't come here and tell me not to get one or something along those lines, I just want an answer to my question :) Thanks!

You're going to struggle to get a "good deal". They are expensive to insure because they are targeted for theft and usually wrap nicely around poles. Even as a mature driver with no history and multiple cars on a policy I still couldn't get anything reasonable through the big insurers and had to spend more than I wanted. You also have to factor in age, little driving experience and P plates.

Best of luck. Let us know who you go with

Enthusiast.com.au seem pretty good and the prices are much lower than "mainstream" insurance companies such as NRMA and all. Going to call on monday and get a proper quote since the online tool seems a bit finicky.

Not that I'm knocking them or anything. But remember two things:

1. There is a reason they are cheaper. Read plenty of reviews of them before taking a policy out and really properly study the PDS.

2. You get what you pay for.

Best of luck, let us know what you end up getting quotes I'm curious.

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
